I'm trying to reverse geocode from Coordinates to an address.

The problem is that most of my coordinates are in the ocean and return ZERO_RESULTS.

I want the geocoder to find the nearest continent/country to the coordinates.

Is there a way to achieve this?

Hi Sara,

The geocoder is designed specifically to convert between *addresses* and locations.

The best thing to do here would be to get some geometry of countries, and do the matching yourself. It should be fairly trivial. Country border data is available from Natural Earth:

Hope this sets you on the right path!

And that data is available in FusionTables:

Wow, I haven't heard of this. Interesting. Well I downloaded the relevant files, and now I assume I need to incorporate these files into Google Maps API?

Is there maybe a tutorial about this kind of thing that I can look over?
