Hi everyone,

Several mappers have reported on the forum that their edits have disappeared from the maps.

We’re aware of this rendering issue and working hard to get this fixed soon.

I’ll post back here as soon as this issue is resolved.

Thanks for your patience on this!

~Rahim

I've seen rendering issues where a road did not display, but never one where older data in the area was back in place.   Here is a good example:  The ICC / I-95 interchange in MD.  This was previously shown as roads under construction in GM/GMM.   The attributes were set to complete when the road opened and everything migrated over to GM...where it still shows as complete and connected.   Now, the area displayed in GMM is reverted back to an incomplete set of roads under construction.

Has my account been hacked Or is MM having problems??

Hello I don’t know if there is a problem with MM or if my account has been hacked. I have been mapping and adding POI’s in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. Within this past week my POI’s have changed. I upload photos to my Picasa account for approval and once approved they are posted on the POI. Here are my Stats: 116 days , 651 edits, 63 reviews,

Road length (km)

104.7

Points of interest

6

Business listings

34

Regions (sq kms)

1.3

Feature edits

46

Here are some of my Issues that I am experiencing.

1.     90% of my POI’s have lost the information (phone, web address, hours, and photos). Now if I go into MM and review my edits they all show no changes or edits, same goes for my Picasa account.

2.     When I mouse over one of my POI’s in GM it will not let me click on it to bring up the full information menu of that POI.

3.     If I add and new POI in MM, It gets published and does not show up in GM (Iknow this takes some time but Its been over a week for some)

4.     Some streets in the Jarabacoa area are showing Chinese text as you zoom in and out.

Please let me know what to do to correct this issue.

Thanks Rahim. This hit me today too. Road segments suddenly missing and road names reverting to their pre January status.

Hi Alberto,

What you are seeing is due to the rendering issues.  There is nothing you need to do, Google just needs to work on the fix.  You can keep mapping in the meantime; your new edits will show up once the rendering issues are fixed.

Alberto, if you can still see the work in Map Maker, then it still exists.  It just needs to be rendered (propagated out) to Maps, which Google is working on as Rahim said above.  Things like Directions has always taken 3 months or so to propagate out, but that hasn't stopped us all from mapping!

Bliss - The rendering issue appears in Maps, but not Map Maker.  So I think you can say that if it is in Map Maker, it is new spam.  If it remains deleted from Map Maker but re-appearing in Maps, it's just the rendering issue where you are seeing the map as it was a month or two ago, and it should disappear again when the current Map Maker status is rendered to Maps.

I think I may have the same problem here. I recently extended the boundary of North Florida Community College in Madison, FL. The old boundary was incorrect and did not include all of the college facilities, so I corrected it as good as possible and it was approved. Now the old boundary is showing up again on the generic Google Maps, but when I go into mapmaker and select the NFCC boundary, the blue highlighted area extends to the boundary I had set, but the tan area on the map representing the college is not matching it.

Hi Casey,

No, I do not.  Those of us you see with a R beside our names are volunteer RERs (Regional Expert Reviewer).  We have higher review trust levels, and were selected for our contributions in the forums and quality reviews.  Along with our experience, we do have direct contact with Google employees and some other resources from which to get information.

This could have to do with the map-wide rerendering, since I just noticed that Fairfield Metro and Sloatsburg train stations in the NYC area just appeared after they were included in the GTFS back in December.

Hi,
I started editing Google Maps in early January (2012).  Currently I have completed over 880 edits mainly in northern Ontario with the main purpose of indicating good bike routes.  On February 27th I noticed that some of the edits that had already been rendered to GM began to dissappear, although they were still visible in GMM.  In total it was over 400 edits that had dissappeared from GM and they were all made during February.  Everything made in January appears to be intact.  When this is all settled it would be nice to know whether the cause was some technical glitch or was it caused by malicious hackers ??  What are other editors experiences regarding the entry dates of the affected edits ?

I think I'm finally a believer... I've been adding the high tension network in my area section by section recently, and today they are not showing up on the maps. I'm sure they will return since the edits are still showing in my profile, but it makes continuing that project difficult since I can no longer see what is completed.

Hi Rahim

Here are a couple of streets I added that used to appear in Google Maps just fine.  http://goo.gl/U8pol  It then appeared that all edits up to some point in January went live to Google Navigation.  At that point all edits in Map Maker between January and February still appear in mapmaker but disappeared from Google Maps.  No new items added appear in Google Maps whereas up until January they would appear within hours.  Still no change.

Hi Denis,

I have the same experience. All edits till end of January are intact in Google Maps, and all edits made after the first week of February have disappeared after the last update, newer edits never have been rendered into Google Maps. The same type of bug has already happened in the past (though not for such a big period of time) and everything has been recovered after 'some' time ;-)

Hello Rahim’

As you can see a lot of us including myself are getting a little frustrated with the rendering issue. Now you say that you all (Google) are working hard to resolve the issue. But I am wondering if it is really a rendering issue or has Google maps been hacked.

You need to be up front with us. Show your cards. Say it like it is. Don’t be afraid. We will all understand if Google has been hacked. But this is going a little too far in time. I would think that a rendering issue would be resolved with a couple of mouse clicks.

Sorry if I sound a little harsh but I take a lot of pride in my work and as of now I can’t see any progress. I have all my photos that are gone, POI’s without any information and one POI that has information from some place in  Cocoa, FL and I am in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. I have already tried the report a problem with Google said that they fixed it and nothing, it’s all the same. The place is called La Tinaja located at 19.122803,-70.642211 but when you click on the information screen it gives you La-Tinaja‎ 3815 North Highway 1 # 105 Cocoa, FL 32926 (321) 639-1169 and that is incorrect. This is crazy.

There was obviously something very major that occurred.  Even some of my edits in Map Maker have even disappeared! ( http://goo.gl/S8vBw )  It is pretty depressing to work all the hours and now not have anything to "see" for it.  I certainly hope that Google can repair this soon.

I checked Google Maps this morning at approximately 8:00 AM Eastern Standard Time.  I am pleased to report that most of my missing edits made during February have re-appeared, apart from one or two individual items that may have other causes.  While not knowing nor needing to know the full details it would be nice to know if the cause was the result of any criminal activity.  Many thanks to the Google team for resolving the problem.

As of this morning 9 Mar 2012, a lot of edits have reappeared on Google Maps and the Mobile app for android.  The ETA/PL roads still do not show though.

Also, I am starting to see "ghost" roads appearing in Google Maps and Map Maker that I can not select or edit.  Here's an example

It's roads that look like this.  That little park of Falcon Pkwy that looks like an on ramp.  You can't select it.  It appears in both maps.  Is there anything being done at this time by Google to find and eliminate these errors?

Hi Rahim,

That is good to hear!  I just want to be a bit proactive here; while the issue is fixed, has the map had time since the fix was completed to catch up on all rendering?  I ask because if it isn't, you will have dozens of postings of people complaining of issues in their area unless you declare now that the Maps needs time to catch up.

I am still having issues in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. While I’m in MM and I move my mouse over a POI the mouse changes from a pointer to a hand and then when I click on the POI nothing happens (no information comes up about the poi). Also all of my photos and information on the POI’s is not showing up on my edits. I still have one POI in particular (restaurant) that shows up with information form a place in Florida. Here is the link to the incorrect poi called La-Tinaja

1. This anoying render problem. All my edits stay invisible.
2. MapMaker ignores edits made in my country (Brazil) and do not use our data in Google Maps.

O lot of people are leaving GMM.
