Good afternoon.

Last week, I used the Google Apps Provisioning API to add 4 accounts to my university's Google Apps for Education domain.  The domain originally had 3 accounts.  After I provisioned the accounts, the dashboard indicated that 7 users existed in our domain.  However, when I visited the "Organization & users" tab, only 3 users were displayed.  As a test, I waited a few minutes and attempted to create accounts using the 4 users' names.  As I expected, the system would not create the additional accounts (since they apparently already existed).

A few days later, I logged in again, and all 7users were displayed on the "Organization & users" screen.  How long does it take for newly created accounts to show up on the "Organization & users" screen?  Does this vary according to server traffic and the number of accounts being provisioned at once?  We have an application that will provision any number of accounts at once.

Thank you.

Hello Robin,

It takes few minutes for the created account to show up on the "Organization & users" screen. You shall wait for some more minutes if you dont see the users in the screen.

There was a problem with the user provisioning last week, that could have caused delay in creation.

I would say, try provisioning of users again, check if you can see the created users in 5-10 minutes.

Server traffic and the number of accounts being provisioned at once, may vary the time taken for creation of new users.
Generally, you will be able to provision good number of accounts without any problem.

But if the number is very huge, it is recommended to use exponential backoff to avoid errors due to exceed in quota limits. There is a limit in the number of requests you can make per second.

Thanks,
Shraddha.

Hello,

You can use the gdata .NET client library to develop your application for Google Apps API.
Checkout the library from here.

The libraries are available in python, php and java too from the google repository.

API does not support any function to indicate whether a Gmail user has sent or received mail. So you can write an application to do so, in any language.

Shraddha,

Thanks very much for your insight.   I have another question for you.

I am new to the Google Apps API world, and I will be developing applications in both Perl and .NET.  I am using the following resource to obtain information about the Google Apps API for Perl.

Can you please recommend a similar resource for .NET programming?
Do you happen to know whether I can write a function in Perl to indicate whether a Gmail user has sent or received mail?

Thanks again!

Hi Robin,

Provisioning API does not allow custom fields for now. We know, this feature is really desirable.
We are working to make this feature available in future.

Thank you.  Is it possible to create a custom field?  Each user at our university has a unique numeric ID.  Can we add a field to store this value?  Would the Provisioning API recognize it (so we could include it when new users are created)?
Thanks again,

Hello Robin,

Although Email Audit API allows monitoring a users mailbox, but its is strictly for legal compliance. You cannot write an application using it.

Hi, Shraddha.  Can you please point me to some documentation that explains what should be considered as I create an application to identify whether a user has sent or received email?

Thank you,
