I need some assistance from the Google App Engine team.  I have two application names reserved, both using the Master/Slave datastore.  Only one is active.  I had reserved the second one (a while ago) in anticipation of the HRD migration, in order to retain the app name.

I would like to change the second application to HRD and use it for my migration, but there is no way for me to do this in the Application Settings.  Can someone at Google contact me for the app ids?  Thank you.

After the migration, the new hrd application, can still be accessed using the old m/s appid.

So the new migrated applications will use your choosen names.

To the outside world your URLs ec dont have to change. Your users wont see the new hr appid.

The migration system will setup this 'alias' for you, so that the old id (which becomes inaccessible) points to the new app instead.

Hi Barry,

Thanks for the quick reply.  My problem is that I created both applications as Master/Slave.  I need to change the second one to HRD but there is no way to do this, is there?  Thanks,

~Brent

Just create a new one using an arbitrary appid, eg myappname-hrd. The exact name is for your internal reference only.

You then migrate from the current M/S app to the new app id. In this process this will alias the old ID to the new ID.

So you will use the old ID to access the app.

(No you can't change the database type of a created app. And you can't delete an app to recreate it as a different type. Instead you create a new app, that uses the id of the old one.

OK, but my other question remains: can I convert a Master/Slave application directly into an HRD application?  There is no data in it, so can someone (at Google) simply upgrade it?

No.

Probably not. When ever anyone asks, they say use the migration tool, like I noted.
