Hi Everyone:
If you've found yourself a bit confused when getting started with the
JavaScript library for the Data Export API, there's now a new guide to
make it super simple:

http://code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/gdata/1.0/gdataJavascript.html

Follow this guide and have a working HTML page that pulls in your
Analytics data in no time (really)!

We also have a new Authentication Guide:
http://code.google.com/apis/analytics/docs/gdata/1.0/gdataAuthentication.html

Authentication is one of the more difficult aspects of getting started
with Google Data, and for the JavaScript and Java guides, much of the
authorization complexity is handled by library methods.

For that reason, we've pulled the auth stuff out of all the language
guides and put it in one central doc, with relevant samples beneath
each authentication methodology. We hope this makes it easier for you
to
A. Get started quickly without being confused by authentication.
B. Have a source of authentication details when you are ready.
C. Understand which authentication method to use and when.

We'd love to hear your thoughts and comments about these new docs. Do
you find them an improvement? Do you have some suggestions for future
docs?

all the best,

~prose

Hello from the future!!!

It is 2012 and neither of the docs below are available on Google (or anywhere else that I can find).  Can I possibly get a copy of them?

I am attempting to work through the article:

Visualizing Google Analytics Data with Google Chart Tools by Alexander Lucas, Google Analytics API Team

The article describe exactly what I have been asked to do although in 2012, I am skeptical as to if the article is still valid. I have been watching some of the I/O videos and the difference between the Visualization API and the Chart API are becoming  quite fuzzy.

This is probably easier for you to use: http://analytics-api-samples.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/src/reporting/javascript/ez-ga-dash/docs/user-documentation.html

Just a note to report that the document referred to in Nick's response was extremely easy and worked flawlessly out of the gate. I am not sure why I wasn't able to stumble across the Easy Dashboard Javascript Library while researching this issue in google documentation but they should put a more visible link to it somewhere.

THANK YOU

awesome.

The reason why is that we haven't really announced / launched it yet :)

Really? That's really cool!!

Here's something then. We create reports through GA and a lot of them use regular expressions to drill down into the directory structure. Today I am figuring out how those translate to the dimensions and metrics I am allowed to use with the API so that I can duplicate my reports in the dashboard. That might be something that your document can address if I can even do that. :)

BTW by the most easily digested document I have read on Google this week. Not all of us like all of the jargon with no examples. I appreciate your efforts.

Hi Nick,

I used this tutorial and got set up importing data from GA. I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to be able to have more than one line displayed on the same chart. ie, how would I put a line on the chart that compares last years results with this years?
