I am receiving 403 errors from the google custom search api. Just
started over the past few days. I'm not going above the rate limit or
the daily usage limit. One search will work, then several won't, then
a few will work, then more errors. Nothing has changed in my code, is
there something going on with the custom search api that could be
causing this?

Thanks!

Hi Tim,

Can you let me know if you're still having this problem?

Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam,
I believe I'm having the same problem. When I try to search through Custom search web interface everything works, but when I use Python client I get response 403 and it says "Daily limit exceeded" even though according to statistics I only used 17% of the quota. I am probably doing something wrong, but I have no idea what. Could you help me with this, please?

Thanks,
Jozef

Please check in the API Console to make sure that you have (a) enabled the CS API, (b) are using the correct API key, and (c) not set any restrictions for the use of the API (e.g., IP address, domain restrictions, etc.). If none of these work, then you will likely need to contact Adam Feldman with your project ID.

Hi,

I get this 403 error too and it seems that my server's IP address is blocked by the CSE api.
Is it possible to remove that block?

Thanks

Hi,

it seems like that the IP address filter was the problem, I removed
all IP addresses and it works again.

not sure what happened, the application worked before too

Thanks
Olaf

Chances are, you're trigging throttling mechanisms designed to prevent you from using the Search API for SEO and a variety of other nefarious purposes. I doubt very much that they'll change it unless you can demonstrate some extremely worthy, pressing application.

I'm having the same problem here.  I'm still under quota and I can do a number of queries (about a thousand) but then suddenly start getting 403 errors.  If I wait a few seconds and relaunch I can get another 1000 or so before I get another batch of 403s.

I've got the daily quota set to 10,000 if that helps.

Thanks in advance!

I'm using it in conjunction with GoogleDiggity by Stach and Liu for assessing my enterprises application and information perimeter.  While these tools are potentially used by attackers to find vulnerable web applications, defenders can (and do) employ them to identify and remediate our own threat surface preemptively.

I have the same problem. I'm in mid implementation and may possibly be firing off the same top secret google shut down bot. Could someone please tell me how I can be friends with this bot. I mean no harm.
