Why don't multiple "site:" filters or logical operators (e.g., "OR") function as expected for Feeds -> Find Feed API?

The Feed API demo makes use of the "site:" filter to restrict the result-set to a specified domain. This works as expected for a single domain. But when additional domains are added, e.g. "site:example.com OR site:another-example.com OR site:yet-another.com 'search query goes here'", no results are returned.

The "site:" filter seems to be a feature of Google Web Search, which does indeed support multiple "site:" domains. Does the Feed API simply not support the same types of search strings that the fully-featured Web Search does? Or is there some syntactical nuance to the Feed API?

I think the problem is the OR operator. Namely, I'm thinking it's not supported in the Feeds API. In fact, I don't know that it's supported in the Web Search API anymore, either. It clearly is on Google's primary search page, but I don't know that it is extended to the APIs.

If the OR operator is not supported, are you aware of any other means by which to achieve the desired result?

I'm about to write a function to iterate over a number of predefined, "trusted" domains and execute a feed search against each one, collating the results at the end. If I can avoid this approach, I would prefer to. ;-)
