Hi fellow bloggers,

As Lisa suggested, I'm writing to introduce myself... I'm Luciano, 32,
economist, living in São Paulo. I've been working in financial markets
since 2001 (back then I was an engineer undergrad, the following year
I switched to economics). I'm the sole editor of
drunkeynesian.blogspot.com, a blog in Portuguese about financial
markets & economics musings. I'll cover central banks and financial
stability for GES - it's a topic I already follow both for my work and
the blog.

Looking forward to work with you.

Cheers,
Luciano

Hi to everyone! My name is Rasheed Abou-Alsamh. I am a Saudi-American
journalist living in Brasilia. I'm 48 years old and grew up in
Switzerland and Brazil. I speak and write fluently in Portuguese.
After graduating from the Escola Americana de Brasilia I spent a year
in Saudi Arabia studying Arabic and then I studied at Swarthmore
College in Pennsylvania, US, where I got a BA in Political Science. I
then worked for 20 years in Saudi Arabia and the UAE as a newspaper
reporter, editor and columnist. When I was based in Saudi I also
worked as a correspondent for the Washington Times, the New York Times
and the Christian Science Monitor.
At the end of 2008 I moved back to Brasilia and am now an opinion
columnist for O Globo newspaper on the Arab world and a correspondent
for Al-Ahram Weekly in Cairo.
I plan to be blogging on the futire challenges to the environment. Of
special interest to me is the push towards nuclear energy in the
Middle East while the rest of the world is moving away from it. The
use of biofuels in Brazil and a new push to use solar energy in Saudi
Arabia also interest me.

Hi everyone!

Am I the only woman so far? :O

Well, I'm Yohana, 24 years old, born and raised in São Paulo. I studied journalism here and I've been working with it since 2007 (websites, radio, start ups, etc). In 2009, I spent a few months in Washington D.C., where I studied Globalization and FTAs at The Washington Center. During this period, I also worked at Voice of America - Portuguese for Africa.
Nowadays, I like to combine journalism and new technologies: that's why I work in start up called Panarea Digital, besides writing to Women News Network and Global Voices.
I picked the topics "Implementing Board Diversity" and "Designing Intelligent Labor Migration Policies", within The Global Society.
I have a personal blog, where I write about anything I want: since violence against women to singers I like. It's my escape valve! The same goes to my twitter account.

Nice to meet you all!

Oi a todos e todas,

I'm Gregory Scruggs, but go mostly by Greg, a U.S. citizen that has been living on and off in Brazil over the last couple years.  I'm 25 years old and graduated from Harvard University in 2008.  At Harvard, I studied Portuguese at PUC-Rio through a summer program in 2006 and returned for thesis research on cultural aspects of favelas in 2007.  During that period, I spent two months living in the favela of Rocinha.  I also served on the board of a Rocinha based NGO, the Two Brothers Foundation.  After working for two years as a researcher at the Penn Institute for Urban Research in Philadelphia, I was awarded a Fulbright study/research grant to spend a year in Rio focusing on urban planning and development.  Favelas -- in particular the bias against them and the potential solutions and creativity that they ferment -- continue to be my main area of focus and my topic for the Futurechallenges conference.  From March until the end of June, I have been conducting field research for an academic study of favela real estate prices on a project funded by the Lincoln Institute for Land Policy, which has meant a lot of time hanging out in these fascinating communities and seeing how they tick.

I blogged from 2006-2009 at www.beatdiaspora.com and recently started www.soundurbanism.com, which I hope to have up and running soon.  I will be covering Rio +20 in blog format for Next American City (www.americancity.org) and have a trio of recently published pieces on favela issues, both cultural and urban/political.

Extreme Makeover -- investigative journalism article for Forefront on who benefits and who suffers from the ongoing transformation of Rio: http://americancity.org/forefront/view/extreme-makeover

"Tá Tudo Errado": The Future of Funk in a Pacified Rio -- cultural journalism article for The Cluster Mag on police crackdowns restricting baile funk in the city's favelas: http://theclustermag.com/blog/2012/05/ta-tudo-errado-the-future-of-funk-in-a-pacified-rio/

From Funkification to Pacification -- peer-reviewed, academic article on a similar theme, co-authored with Alexandra Lippmann, for the Norient Online Academic Journal, Vol. 1: http://norient.com/academic/rio-funk-2012/

Abraços,
Greg

Since it would be nice to use the social network, the most we can, can I propose a group for the team in facebook? We could help it other, show our ideas and talk about our themes? What do you think?

Hey Elisa!!

So nice to have another woman on board! Not by accident, one of the topics I chose is about implementing board diversity. It would be ironic to have only me as a woman blogging. hahaha

I like the idea of the FB group, but I think the main ideas should be discussed here. Just a sugestion :)

Welcome!

Hi everybody!

First of all, I must say I love our team already! It is not every day you get introduce to such a work team. =D

So... I'm Paula, 23; I graduated last December in business and public administration also in FGV. I also studied social science during this period in UERJ. I worked in Kinderdorf Rio, in some academics projects and was an intern in Central Bank of Brazil. After graduation I decided it was time to get a taste of private market and moved to São Paulo, and after the first shocking couple months I'm actually in love with this city (and EAESP =P). Here I got a lot in contact with the theme of Social Medias.

In august, for family issues, I’m moving back to Rio, whose temperature I miss. But I can imagine already all the things I’m missing about São Paulo now.

Anyway, I’m responsible for “Tackling Inequality of Opportunities”, a topic that I’m absolutely obsessed about, and really enthusiastic about exploring all the possibilities this tools and network has to offer to us until October.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,

Paula

Hi Paula!

Welcome on the team!!

Dear everyone else:

Paula will be covering the Open Solution, write updates on the process and spread it through all kinds of social media channels. It would be a great help, if you could share, retweet or just also post Paulas messages, as soon as she gets started, so we will have a far reach!
We will figure out, how our plans will work! ;)

Best
Lisa
