Dear GES-bloggers,

the Bertelsmann Foundation in Gütersloh, Germany, publishes the magazine "Change" (in German). They would like to write an article about this year's GES.

They would like to highlight the role that you assumed at the GES. Could you - Paula, Yohana, Naomi, Raphael, Luciano, Greg, Rasheed - send me a high resolution picture from you? Could you also pick two or three interesting and rather short quotes
from your blogposts? These quotes should give an impression from this year's GES. We would need these quotes and pictures by tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks to all of you!

Best
Mario

“There is no model solution, please don’t try because it doesn’t exist.  All solutions must be tailor made.  I’m 60 years old, there are no magic hats,” [the Brazilian academic] concluded with a harrumph. http://futurechallenges.org/ges-perspectives/who-starves-first-us-or-the-planet/

Despite the elite stratum of Brazilian society’s penchant for comparing itself to Europe or the U.S., the country remains, in effect, “Bel-India,” as it is sometimes nicknamed: a mixture of Belgium and India.  But while this analogy traditionally referred to small pockets of wealth surrounded by a sea of poverty, the equation could be inverted insofar as the poor ranks of Brazil are growing fast – much like in India – while the rich classes are stagnating – much like a crisis-stricken EU (and by extension Belgium). http://futurechallenges.org/ges-perspectives/belgium-india-brazil/

The company buys trash – rubber tire scraps, potato chip bags, milk cartons – at market prices from wastepickers and talented artisans turn them into accessories – wallets, coin purses, drink coasters, iPad cases. Pulling in several thousands dollars a month, the effort has proven economically viable and Jha emphasizes they do not take, nor do they want to take, donations. The goal, in his words, is to “create a local, sustainable economy. It might not affect India’s GDP, but it matters to vulnerable people.”  http://futurechallenges.org/ges-perspectives/green-the-gap/
