allCountries missing countries

Hi all,

I recently found out that the allCountries.zip is in fact missing a lot of countries:

Latvia
LV.zip

Estonia
EE.zip

Romania
RO.zip


to name a few. Is this intentional? Does one need to import each country manually to be sure?

all countries are included in the allCountries file. your local file is
corrupt or your query is broken.

I would like that to be the case to, but it's not, I've tripple checked it. Also did a check right now

LV is missing, and the others that I mentioned. If it's corrupted then something's wrong with my mac and my 2 server zip binary. But from your answer I understand that it should contain all countries which is great as I need that one, could someone double-check my findings?

The file is not 9M but 219M and has over 8.2Mio rows.

Hi Danijel!

There are indeed two data feeds:
* The "regular"/"standard" one, from http://download.geonames.org/export/dump and explained in http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/readme.txt. In particular the allCountries.zip files is http://download.geonames.org/export/dump/allCountries.zip (219MB).
* The postal/ZIP code one, which is the one you retrieved

It should explain your issue :)

So I'm back, somewhat 'smarter' than before. Maybe I can rephrase my question.

I am importing the allCountries.zip for the POSTAL CODES, not the countries. This file does not include all postal codes available from the http://download.geonames.org/export/zip/

Is this to expect? the LV.zip is for example not included in the allCountries.zip

only the files that exist are included in the allCountries.zip. LV does
not exist as individual file and is consequently not included in the
allCountries.zip.
