Bernard,

While email is the a good way to contact me, I actually prefer using
the mailing list so that others can learn. I have CC'd the list in
this reply.

Well I did a test with google-chrome-stable-20.0.1132.57-145807.x86_64
here on Fedora 17 and all chrome gives me is this error (with the
current SVN code)

google-chrome
[14:14:513388104722:ERROR:webplugin_delegate_proxy.cc(353)]
PluginMsg_Init returned false
[14:14:513388104820:ERROR:webplugin_impl.cc(269)] Couldn't initialize
plug-in

I have to admit I rarely test with google chrome as there have been so
many issues with that browser and firefox plugins that I have given up
on it. In addition googles responsiveness to issues I encounter has
been poor. At one point they blacklisted my plugin due to bugs in
their code.

Couple of thoughts that I have

1. gnome-mplayer is not compiled with X11 support?
2. Is gnome-mplayer and gecko-mediaplayer compiled using the same gmtk?
3. Is gmtk setup to use GTK2 or GTK3 on the working on non-working
machines?

Since I can't even get it to work here, can you sent me the output
from the terminal so I can see if there is a crash dump or something else.

I do find it odd that it works for you on one machine and crashes on
another. But that could be due to different configuration.

Kevin

To get output on the terminal do the following

1. Open gnome-mplayer and enable verbose debugging under edit preferences

2. Close all browser windows

3. open a terminal

4. run your browser from the command line (google-chrome)

5. Notice the output

There is an additional error message  when gecko-mediaplayer crashed in Ubuntu 12.04
The crashed program seems to use third-party or local libraries:

/usr/local/lib/libgmtk.so.0.0.0
/usr/local/lib/libgmlib.so.0.0.0

It is highly recommended to check if the problem persists without those first.

Do you want to continue the report process anyway?

The above logs came from a site that stream with divx player, but the result is the same with sites that use other formats like Windows media player and Quicktime (Apple trailers)

Thanks a lot for looking into this.

Bernard,

Does unsetting GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS help out any? You may need to open a
terminal, unset this variable, and then close all instances of chrome
and then run chrome from the terminal.

BTW, I do not see this message

> environment variable is not supported in GTK3.
> See the documentation for gdk_window_ensure_native() on how to get

On my F17 machine, are you sharing a home directory perhaps?

Hi, Kevin,

Sorry for being such a noob, how do I unset GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS? Do I tyoe in the terminal "unset GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS"? What does it do?

No, I am not sharing home directory. Each OS has its own /home in two separate partitions.

Hi, Kevin,

Sorry for taking so long to reply, I have been busy with work and other things so this was in the back burner for a while. I have just downgraded gecko-mediaplayer to 1.04 (from 1.06) and now working perfectly in Chrome (ubuntu 12.04) so some changes between the versions are the reason why it wasn't working. If you need other information please let me know.
