FDS for firefighters

Hi to all members of FDS group.

For quite some time now ,I am wondering, if there is anybody who uses FDS as tool for teaching firefighters about enclosure fire dynamic … I am asking this question because I want to write new material about fire development and it’s dynamic for firefighters. If there is anybody who is willing to share such information is more than welcome to contact me.

Hi,

i also thought i would be a good idea to use FDS for firefighter-training.
Until now i just simulated some variations of the roomfire example which comes with FDS. I've added some ISOF for three different temperatures (40°C, 250°C and 500°C) und for three different oxygen concentrations (20%, 13.5% and 11.4%) and put in some SLCF for temperature, mixture fraction and velocity.
For the geometry i used the following changes: room without ceilling, a lower ceilling (1.4m height), a wooden ceilling and a hot ceilling (650°C).

I'm not sure but i think i will change the resolution to 5cm cells.

I want to explain the flashover phenomenon with these simulations but until now i haven't. I'm scheduled for february for the presentation so i do not have any experience if FDS is appropriate for this application.

There are some teaching materials about flashover for firefighters but
in french language. with the version 4 of FDS.

Hi Matija and Mohamed.

To Matija: I am also an voluntary firefighter and I'm from Germany. The presentation will not be public, it is planned only for members of our firestation. I consider this presentation more like a test for using FDS results in presentations like this.

To Mohamed: I will take a look at the material you mentioned, thank you for the link!
