Quite a seasons finale! Deep down I wanted Alonso to do it, but Vettel certainly kept it all together to finally win through. Difference is though would Vettel have performed had he been driving the Ferrari this year?  I guess the answer is no. He knows how to drive the Red Bull as fast as it will go, but that's what he's paid to do. And scything through the field in the fastest car isn't all that difficult in the scheme of things, especially when the likes of Schumacher simply moves over to secure your title!
Massa did a sterling job for Alonso, a true rear gunner helping his teammate. I know Webber moved out of Vettels way at one point but he didn't appear to make it all that easy earlier on, especially at the first corner.
Hulkenberg threw it all away for himself and Lewis. Until that point the German was proving to be a hero.
Great drive by Jenson, when the cars under him, he really does know how to maximise changeable conditions.
Caterham nicked 10th place in the CC from Marrusia and a few million dollars to boot and we await both team driver line ups for next year.
Can next season be as good? I don't see why not. I guess all eyes will be on Lewis and Perez.
Now the sabbatical and I'm already bored!

One of the few races that had any 'personality' I thought.

Truly, Vettel can make the best car (not the fastest) work towards the front, especially as you say  when all are keen to leap outta the way. He's still not the whole, rounded driver I'd prefer to see and that accolade probably only applies to Fred these days.

So, good start, Vettel did really well to survive the carnage and get back into things and the Jenson/Lewis fight was something to watch; Jenson clearly making a statement I thought. Lovely to watch the confusion regarding the tyres and also how some drivers made a much better fist of it that others. Impressed with the Hulk up until the point came where desperation won out over circumspection; let's try an overtake on a wet line on an off-camber corner. Yeah, that'll be right. shame Lewis had to go out in the style to which we'd grown accustomed.

A word on Felipe. I'm not his greatest fan but yesterday he was almost a hero, no, Hero, for the way he worked for Alonso. He probably could have run much closer to the front but chose to work for the team (or maybe he was told to, let's think positive). It's a shame the Webber/Vettel relationship isn't so. Mark has had a lacklustre season and surely this must be his last single year stint at Red Bull. If the rumours of Vettel's shift are true then 2014 needs to see a driver other than Pottsy in the main chair.

In the end it was inevitable that the RBR/Newey would win when performance wasn't the primary requirement and Seb made it through the pack, with a damaged car and got the required points. for one of the few times in my life I felt for Fred. Props to Jense though for coming out on top at the very end.

Schumacher is gone. Let us speak no more of this.

I can't wait for Newey to retire. I know he's a genius but it's like a pub quiz in Wolverhampton where on of the teams has sheldon Cooper on it. If you want a new challenge Ade, go to Caterham.

I really haven't enjoyed most of this year, partially due to the insanity of sky/BBC TV shenanigans, but also because I'm fed up with the artifice of DRS and KERS. Austin showed how it can be and, once again, a damp race illustrates how performance doesn't necessarily make for good racing.

Treaded tyres, soon!

I agree with a lot of what you say TJ, particularly with regard to Alonso, Vettel, Massa and Webber. And whilst I remain a purist at heart, I'm also a realist. Given that the regs dictate designers and engineers can't build a car that has ultimate mechanical downforce thus enabling it to tailgate others without losing front end grip, the intro of KERS and DRS has negated that and brought a wealth of overtaking that we all dreamt of in the preceding processional years.

In the main we've had some pretty close and thrilling races of late ( although one or two were borefests) and an unprecedented 7 different winners in the first 7 races of this season. I don't think that would have been possible without the artificial drivers aids. So if its a choice of aids or not I'd have to go for the former. That's the head ruling the heart.

As regards tyres, I think the situation was getting out of hand because the teams just couldn't figure out why one car would behave better than another on the same circuit in the same weather and sometimes with sister cars. Of late though Pirelli appear to have diluted that problem. But, of course, one can never get away from the fact that mixed weather conditions equate to thrilling racing so maybe Bernie still has a point with soaking the track at indeterminate times during races. We all thought that his idea of night racing was a non starter but Singapore and Abu Dhabi are spectacular successes.

Like you I'm savage with the BBC and now that Jake has left it's gonna be dire next year. I'm lucky enough to be able to watch Sky F1 since one of my lads has the whole package including Sky Go so he's given me his password that lets me access it via my laptop. Brundle is still a master at commentary and Ted Kravitz streets ahead of Gary with the pit news. Natalie Pinkham is eye candy too {:0))

Next year I want to see JB win a second title, so get the damn car right McLaren and your reliabilty and pit performance and he might just do it!
