Care to chime in on this question from a running friend? (Responses will be used for a post on my Runner's Notes blog).

If you train for a race and two weeks before you get injured and there's no way you can participate, do you still pick up the shirt and wear it with pride?

(This was a question I recently got from a running friend who's done his share of races.)

:-) Heather C.

Heather,
If you train properly, consistently, you won't get injured.....then you won't be embarrassed to wear the shirt :)

I personally won't wear it until I have run that distance. I trained really well for the NYD5Miler 2011 and wouldn't ya know it, caught some sort of bug and was up all night New Year's Eve spewing guts. My friend picked up my headband but I wouldn't let her give it to me until I ran the full 5 miles a few weeks later.

I don't wear them until I do the miles. That would be like going to a yard sale and buying a troph for something you didnt do.Sorry.

I'll pick up the shirt, but I won't wear it at other races. I'll usually just wear it around the house. Pre-registering and paying for the shirt is always good motivation to NOT get injured before a race!

I don't wear any race shirt until after I've run the race.  But, if I was able to volunteer I would do so and then wear the shirt with pride.

I pick up the shirt and wear it because, really, I paid for it.  To not pick it up and/or wear it is just impractical, in my opinion.
