Apologies if you get multiple versions of this email - Googlegroup is not cooperating today!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tested on Ubuntu10/Java6 with 3D plugin and it works fine for me with the latest jars downloaded from GNU/http://www.staticfreesoft.com java -classpath "electricBinary-9.02.jar:electricSFS-9.02.jar" com.sun.electric.Launcher 23429359 2012-07-31 10:53 electricBinary-9.02.jar 389874 2012-07-31 10:59 electricSFS-9.02.jar Tips: - Run Electric and check if 3D preferences (Preferences -> Display -> 3D) appears. If not, Java3D is probably not properly installed in the computer as it is the first sign Electric can't start Java3D classes with reflection. - If 3D preferences is OK but you don't get the 3D menu, run Electric with the debug option (see below). That should report exceptions not reported in the normal mode. java -classpath "electricBinary-9.02.jar:electricSFS-9.02.jar" -debug Gilda

No, your Java3D installation doesn't look right because you are not seeing the 3D View (elements rendered in 3D in the tab). See the image attached.

Look for the files j3dcore.jar, j3dutils.jar or vecmath.jar in your Java installation. If you can't find it, it means Java3D is not properly installed. I don't run on Windows so I can't tell you where the installation should be

Goh,
you have to install java 3d package in your OS. I had the similar
problem but in linux (debian squeeze).

Gilda,
your help has been very accurate. I could run electric-9.02 with
java-3D plugin successfully! I had a bad installation the java-3d
package in my OS.

Solution:
Read the documentation you see below, it explains how to install
correctly java-3D in several OS,
http://download.java.net/media/java3d/builds/release/1.5.1/README-download.html
put attention with packages version to install

then you should download the corresponding install package to OS, from
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/tech/index-jsp-138252.html

Good luck Goh and Thanks Gilda!!!

Luis and Gilda,
For your info, I've just used back electric-9.01 with java-3D plugin in Windows 7 environment , then I'm able to see the 3D layout stack successfully from my 3D preferences (Preferences -> Display -> 3D). Does anyone able to see the 3D layout stack successfully by using electric-9.02 with java-3D plugin in Windows 7 environment ? Please feedback.

I think that electric-9.01.jar include the java3d packages. Do you
read the webpage that I told you? The electric-9.02.jar didn't include
java3d packages. You will should install manually the java3d package
in your OS.

then you run once-again script included electricSFS-9.02.jar.

I work under GNU/Linux OS but this will should work ok in your OS.

I also, after ensuring the java-3D plugin is installed, don't have the 3D viewer option under the Window menu item using 9.02 but do have it in the 9.01 and older versions. I spent very little time looking at this so perhaps the menu item changed? I am using Windows 7 OS. Best, Jake.

Jacob,
check you java/java3d installation. I don't use windows, but I
recently run my windows 7 and I make the steps that I wrote above
(previous email).
step 1: I installed java from http://java.com/en/download/chrome.jsp?locale=en
step 2: I installed java3d from
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness/downloads/java-archive-downloads-java-client-419417.html#java3d-1.5.1-oth-JPR
step 3 :I run java script under DOS, from
http://www.staticfreesoft.com/jmanual/mchap01-05.html

See the follow screenshop of my desktop
https://picasaweb.google.com/guanucoluis/FreeSoftware
and the commands wrote it http://pastebin.com/Ty3dW5Ac

recommendations,
run scripts with the debug key, e.g.: java -classpath
"electricBinary-9.02.jar;electricSFS-9.02.jar"
com.sun.electric.Launcher -debug
check installation under DOS as: java -version (see screenshop)

Good luck!

Luis

Hi Luis, so you get the 3D viewer menu item under the Windows menu in version 9.02? I get the 3D menu item, and it works fine, in 9.01 and older builds (but not 9.02). Thanks, jake.

Jake,

Please provide the following information:

1. Size of the jar files you are using. Below are the latest files downloaded from staticfreesoftware

    389874 Aug  1 17:51 electricSFS-9.02.jar
23429359 Aug  1 17:53 electricBinary-9.02.jar

2. Do "jar -tvf <jarfile> >>out" and send the data to me directly

3. Provide exact command you are using to start Electric.

4. Run Electric in debug mode (-debug) and send me the output on your console.

electric9.02 is using a different compile method compared with electric9.01. If you get 3D with 9.01, it seems your problem is with electricSFS-9.02.jar. If you have the latest one (see size above), it should work.

Once you send me the data, I will do my best to figure out what is wrong. I am not a Windows user so things might take longer to debug.

Hi Gilda,

Attached is a snap shot of my Electric directory showing sizes.

I double-click on the jar file to start it (nothing fancy ;-).

The older builds show the "3D Window" menu item under Window menu; however the current build does not.

I can't find the electricSFS-9.02.jar build you indicate below to download and try out.

I am happy using 9.01 so no worries on my end. Thanks, jake.

You should run electric under terminal (DOS terminal Windows)

step1: CTRL+r
step2: change directory to path electric directory
step3: write,

java -classpath "electricBinary-9.02.jar;electricSFS-9.02.jar"
com.sun.electric.Launcher

I think don't working with "double-click" in the electric-9.02.jar file.
