In 4th Edition, there is also something called adl.data. It's a data
bucket which can be shared between SCOs. Not too many LMSes have
implemented 4th Edition yet, so not sure how useful it will be.

You can't read from or write to another SCO directly. If you need to
share data between SCOs, you will need to look at global objectives.
A SCO can map status data of it's primary and other objectives to
globals. These globals can them be mapped to other SCOs. You are
limited to status related data (success, score, etc). In SCORM 2004
