Hi DMXis community,

Does anybody know a way to use MIDI clock inside DMXis?
I want to use MIDI clock sent from Traktor Pro inside DMXis to set the BPM.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You have to run it as a VST. I know how to in Ableton, but have never used Traktor. If you have used VST's, this video may help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBC4x6bL4JI   If not, then Dave can probably help.

Thanks a lot for your help but I hope there will be a way without ableton....

Yep...that's how you have to do it.  And, if Traktor is anything like Sonar X1, you will also have to configure the plug-in to run as a synth, like any other virtual instrument.  Once you do that, insert an audio track that uses DMXIS as its output, thereby syncing to the host tempo

It does work in ableton. MY setup for example, has DMXIS running in ableton. I click midi clips (notes) to trigger scenes. I tap out the beat of the song in ableton, then the scene switches exactly on the 1. Ableton also sends the time to DMXIS, so any waves (sine, square...) happen on the beat. for example, I have a scene that switches colors in a square wave oscillator. Because i tapped out the beat, The high point of the square wave is on the 1, the low point on the 2, etc. This way, my colors switch on the beat.

Has anyone seen DMXIS master speed sync to a midi clock?  Does it even work in Ableton?  It would be awesome if it synced to a midi clock.   Perhaps Dave can comment here.

Dear Andrew, the beauty of this group and the ENTTEC website are that they both have your answer if you do a little thing called search.  I'll save you the trouble.  http://www.enttec.com/tutorials/dmxis/albeton.html

Michael,

Thanks for the reply.  I found my answer from the video afterwards and indeed it works.  But I think there are a few of us looking at having DMXIS sync directly to traktor w/o ableton or have the master clock sync to a midi clock in stand-alone mode.  That I'm pretty sure is not documented anywhere.

Just go to your MIDI settings under the file menu in DMXIS.  Choose your MIDI output from traktor as the input source.  If that doesn't work directly, then download LoopBe1.  Output from Traktor to that, choose LoopBe1 as the input in DMXIS and done.

Do you have a Windows setup?  I'm not seeing any of those options in OSX.

Indeed, I have Windows.  Sorry.  I do know that in either case, you need to run the plug-in as a virtual instrument.  How to do that EXACTLY on a Mac is something I can't tell you.  There is a video on how to set up Ableton to control it.  I have to believe Traktor is going to be similar, at least in basis.  Pretty much either Mac or PC do it generally the same way.  You need to create an audio track, assign DMXIS output to it as a virtual instrument...(some programs also require that you configure DMXIS to run as a synth).  Assign a MIDI input to DMXIS, and "play" the plug-in via a controller, keyboard, or manually enter the note data.  Because DMXIS is essentially like any other MIDI instrument now, it will assume the host tempo from the software.

I use Sonar X2, and had to configure it to run as a synth in the virtual instrument properties.  Within Studio One from Presonus..it ran without needing to be configured that way.  Check out the tutorials, and also check out the vast number of videos on YouTube.
