Hello everyone

I will start by presenting myself. My name is Claudio and I am from Portugal, Lisbon.
I am following the DIYBio movement for about one year and a half. I very interest in this because I really enjoy the idea of thinking of one open science society/community were science is something a person pursue more for curiosity than for career.
I am a very curious person, so for me sometimes is difficult to identify my main subject of study. My interests are:

Plant molecular/cell biology
Microscopy/Biophysics/Image analysis software
Genomics
Bioinformatics
Hidroponics/Aeroponics/Aquaponics systems
Coral reef biology
Interface living organism and computers/technology
Longevity/Aging

I want to make one question. I am going to move to Vienna (Austria) in June and I am going to stay there probably for the next 4 years. Do you know of any DIYBio group in the city?

Best regards
Claudio

You should talk to Mega- he is on the list.  I think he is in Austria, although I don't know where.

Hey,

I live near to Linz,  So Vienna is a bit less than 2 hours away from me...

This may help you:
http://www.viennaopenlab.at/en_index.php

http://www.viennaopenlab.at/angebot.php

This is not a diy bio community, but surely there are people who will be intersted in.
They do courses (4€ to 12 € to participate) for the public. Extracting DNA out of banana, PCR, etc.

If anywhere in Austria a real diy bio lab is situated, then it'll probably be in Vienna (cosmopolitan city)

Hello everyone and thank you for your answers.

Mega, I want to ask have you ever tried to contact a Hackerspace in Vienna to know if they are interested to start DIYBio projects. As far as I know there 2 spaces :

Metalab (https://metalab.at/)
HappyLab (http://www.happylab.at/)

Last time I was at Metalab (admittedly, that was 2007), they had some
DIYchem facilities. I think they'd be amenable to DIYbio.

Cheers,

No, haven't done that yet. I'll have a look at their websites.

At the moment I'm developing some basic skills on my own...
