Hi I downloaded the new IE9 and noticed Cufon was not showing at all.
I then downloaded the new cufon-yui.js and it is now viewable.

Only problem is when I go to print IE9 is not showing any of the Cufon
text for printing.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi,

As it turns out, this is a new bug in IE9. I spent all day figuring this out and finally figured it out. If you're interested, see my findings here: https://connect.microsoft.com/IE/feedback/details/652752/media-screen-bleeds-into-print-mode

Basically what is supposed to happen is: in screen mode, normal text is hidden and Cufón canvases are visible, and the other way around in print mode. Because of the bug however, the screen styles bleed into print mode and ruin everything.

As this is clearly an IE issue, I suspect that this will be fixed one day by the IE team. But as that may take a while we'll probably implement some kind of a workaround soon. Argh, I was really hoping I wouldn't have to do another mini release.

Hi!

Any progress on this bug? Is there some kind of workaround or other way to fix this?

Is there already a solution/workaround  for this bug?

Hi,

There should already be a work-around posted on the list. Basically, the problem is that in certain cases screen-only CSS leaks to print CSS in IE9. I have reported this bug to the IE team perhaps a year or so ago, but I guess nothing has happened.

The work-around is something like this in your print style sheet:

cufontext { display: inline }

Hey Simo, thanks for your reply! I tried it your way by adding e.g. h1{ display:inline; } to the website print css (and after that also in the print media querie), but still nothing happens :( Hope you maybe know another fix that I can give a try?

Hey Simo, thanks for your reply. I tried your workaround in a seperate
print-stylesheet, as well as print media query in the main stylesheet.
Both don't seem to work. Do you maybe know something else what I can
give a try?

Thanks!

Hi,

Could you try making it !important?

Hi,

I'm experiencing the same problem, meaning nothing shows up when printing in IE9 (Cufon latest version).

I tried above suggestion (setting cufontext to display: inline) and several other things but nothing had any effect. I tried resetting every property I could think of including !important. I also tried making the CSS selector super specific like so:

#content cufon {
  ...
}

And I tried resetting the other elements placed by Cufon as well like so:

#content cufon, #content cufon * {
  ...
}

The selectors I tried:
  • display
  • width
  • height
  • overflow
  • font-size
  • line-height
  • visibility
  • text-indent

Hm.. still can't get it to work. I would love to show you the website,
but is in our test enviroment :(

h1{
display:inline !important;
color:red !important;
}

when removing cufon from the H1 selector, the printed text turns red,
so I know for sure the print.css is working correctly.

Hi,

I must say that it is possible that my memory of the workaround implementation is incorrect, however it looks like you're trying to apply the display property to the wrong element. I really meant "cufontext {}", not that you should replace the selector with your own (h1). Could you just try copying my original line, plus adding the !important in there?

Finally I got it to work!

The solution that works for me is making the canvas property inside the cufom tag inline.

Adding the following to my print.css:

cufon.cufon canvas{ display:inline !important; }

Hope it works for other people as well!

Greets!
