Hi,

Is there any early build of Galera and mysql-wsrep patched version available for Solaris x86 please ?

I saw these 2 entries in launchpad related to this :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/galera/+bug/957425

If there is any tarball available, I could have a try to compile under Solaris and reports my experience on this.

Thanks,
BR.

Hi Laurent,

There's no tarball available as of yet, you'll need to just pull the latest revisions from LP branches - both Galera and MySQL-wsrep.

Also have a look at http://www.codership.com/wiki/doku.php?id=compile_galera

Alex

Hi Alexey,

Thanks for your answer.

By reading the useful resource link you gave me, I can see that there is almost no chance to make the source tarball works under Solaris 10 x86 ? :)
Does the sentence "It may not compile on Solaris 10" implies that compilation was not tested on it or that you have informations about known requisites for Galera/MySQL-WSrep that can"t be fullfilled under Solaris 10 please ?

By the way, you said that there's no tarball available as of yet, do you have any idea on an ETA for some Solaris x86 tarball please ?

Thanks !
Regards,

Laurent

We never tried to compile it on Solaris 10 and, I guess, we never will.
It is up to you to discover.

No ETA. If you mean binary tarball, I don't think we will ever release
binary packages for Solaris - we have enough pain with Linux. So you're
welcome to download the sources and compile them yourself. There is no
need to wait for tarball, unless you're waiting for a tested release.
But then again, we don't test it on Solaris.

Just to be clear, we made it compile and work on Solaris as a courtesy
to adventurous people who wanted to try it on Solaris, and because it
was fairly simple. But after that you're on your own. At the moment we
are not planning to provide any Solaris-related support for Galera.

Alex

Laurent,

Alex compiled for Solaris 11 x86 and it seems to be working very well
to this point.

Just do what he says about downloading it and compiling it yourself.

I am running 3 nodes cluster in seperate zones, and an arbitrator on
an load balancer zone.

After some initial problems that were ironed out by Alex it seems to
be chugging along.

I am still building the rest of my architecture and will get back to
the database testing and can report more later.

Hi Alexey,

Thanks for this answer, this is now pretty clear for me with this explanation.

As we have currently only Solaris 10 available on these Sun machines, I will give it a try and see what is the output ... but as I'm also considering the eventuality of updates for the future, I know by experience that building a soft by compiling it from source is always a pain and a lot more on these Solaris systems so maybe we will have to reconsider the OS choice even if it will be difficult because we have this hardware and need to use it ... will see !

Laurent

Hi Allan,

Thanks for sharing your experience, it's always a benefit for everyone !
May I ask what was "the initial problems that were ironed out by Alex" please ?

Was it OS related or Galera related ? This could be useful to know if I'm facing the same :)

Laurent

Laurent,

Please excuse my commercial interruption, but
if you have business needs to have cluster running on Solaris 10,
we can discuss possibilities to provide regular tested binaries for
this platform.

Thanks,
Vadim.

Hi Vadim,

Thanks for your proposition.
It could be an eventuality, we will see how the tests will be to build it by ourselves.

Laurent
