Cropping Pictures

Hi,

As I have been creating my lesson plans, my biggest struggle with GAFE is not being able to crop a picture. I use many screen shots so that I can replace hard copies with digital, not to mention that I won't have a textbook for one semester's worth of my class. I have been looking for a way to crop pictures either by creating a Google drawing, or in Documents/Presentations, but I keep having to use Publisher. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

On the Chromebook, you can save/open the screen shot in Picassa,
select the screen shot to edit, click Actions, and select Edit in
Creative Kit; wait for it to open and make your edit; you then have
the option of replacing the photo or saving a copy. Chris

You should be able to natively crop the pictures right on the Chromebook now.

Dan, could you provide more specifics on how to do this? I have been asking other teachers who had Chromebooks last year and they couldn't help me with this either. Thank you!

Hi Lisa,

Another option may be to take a partial screenshot of the part of the picture that you want.  

You can take a partial screenshot by clicking 'CTRL' and 'SHIFT' and then the button above the '6' key with the three squares layered on top of one another.  That will then turn your curser into a cross that you can drag over the part of the screen (or picture) that you want.  

To view the screenshot, click 'CTRL' and M to open up your file manager.  I like the sort my file manager by date, so the screenshot would be at the top.

My favorite app for screenshots is Awesome Screenshot.  Options to annotate, crop, etc and saves image file or as URL to linked diigo account.

After you've got your screenshot, whether it's using the native app on the Chromebook or another extension, (there are a ton of them), you can save it on the hard drive or in the cloud, whichever you like.  Double click the image on the harddrive and basic editing tools will launch that will allow you to crop the picture
