Hi,

This is about some NBOS Character Sheet Designer Character Sheets. If
you don't already have this you need to get it.

Phase 1 was the fill in the values yourself sheet. Hmm... Did I post
that here? I'll have to check...

Skipping Phase 2, I've jumped to phase 3 and created a Chimera Basic
character sheet which includes javascript, drop down menus, and csv
files. This is a Beta Test of it to see if it is fully working as
intended and for other user comments. It has 3 sheets. Let me know
what you think. You can find the sheet here:

http://www.nbos.com/nox/index.php?action=1001&id=442

For those of you interested in Javascript arrays, I've managed to
figure out how to populate an array based on user choices, sort it,
and output the result to other fields. Basically, when you choose a
Chimera Class, the abilities for that class are added to the Classed
Abilities area of the sheet. I've created a second user definable area
for Abilities on Sheet 2.

Greg, I tried to use your sheet in the Character Sheet Viewer and when I went to print it out, it kept cutting off the right edge a good half inch or more from the actual edge, all the way to the dice icons.  I even resized the margins to 0 and that didn't help.  I ended up having to grab the background and resize it to print a blank sheet properly - but the problem with doing that is all the text boxes are then out of line so you can't use them.  I thought it might have just been my printer settings, but I tried it on two different printers with the same result.

Did you have this problem when you tried to print it?

Um... this is in reference to the first one you did.  I haven't tried this new version.

Hi October,

Thanks for the feedback. Interesting. I ran out of ink at home for my Lexmark printer so I test printed it to PDF instead without difficulty. I had to choose the printer properties/advanced, and Letter in the settings though, because I  had similar results and my printer properties had defaulted to A4. However, the sheet uses letter sized pages. So I printed it to PDF, setting PDF Creator to print to letter, and it made a PDF perfectly. If you can't get it to print on a printer, using shrink to fit for example, try creating a PDF, assuming you have PDF Creator (its free). I've enclosed one I made in this ms for comparison. Then try printing the PDF but when you print that set the PDF to "shrink to fit" your chosen printer paper size and see what happens.

With regard to the second Character Sheet, that is a legal sized page. I intended it mostly for use with a PC. Again, I printed to PDF and it turned out ok.

I'll try and do a paper test after I get a new ink cartridge. In the meantime let me know how it works out.

Hi October,

From within NBOS Character Sheet Viewer I did a quick check without actually printing, switching printers, and Microsoft XPS and my Lexmark are defaulting to A4. When I change printers in the dialog box, and choose properties, and advanced button, I see A4 as the page size. I would have to change it to letter to print successfully. I'm not sure if this is NBOS Character Sheet Designer/Viewer or just my particular Vista PC.  I'd be interested to know what you see.

Hah! ;) Its the terrier in me...

It may be that I didn't allow for margins as well... I did make it borderless. (scratching head)

Hey - while we're on the subject, what are the values shown in the Resistance Roll block?

They are some default values, based on some of  your text less the character's resistance. So if the character's resistance changes, the values then change. I had a feeling though that you'd get back to me on that one eventually. I picked some numbers out of the text of Chimera Basic. So if you look at the sheet you'll see Base RS/Level that field uses the character's level so it has a source of "Level.Value". The field beside burns has a source of "16 - Level.Value". Level is the field under the text "Level" in the first block, the default value for that field is "1". I've had a feeling I wasn't getting the Resistance Block quite right for a while. I'd left it without the calculation for a while, but the urge to automate it got the better of me. They don't call me "Erroneous" Grog for nothing...

Hmmm. I think I have gone astray via the tempting calculation. I should have put in some default values for the TNs, and let the user modify the fields if needed, (I left the powers open, not sure if that's needed anyway since its so variable due to a powers resistance varying) and left the calculation out of it entirely. The "Base RS/Level AR modifier" should probably have been written out there.

...and by the way I'm up for making any changes you think are needed to the sheets. ;)

Cool, I'll check it out.  I did check the size in the print properties at the time and it was saying Letter, though.

I did notice that there's no place on the character sheet for initiative modifiers (other than under Weapons and Gear).  Or maybe there is and I'm not seeing it?  Should there be one?

Just looked at all my printer settings again.  It's printing letter sized, shrink to fit, and it's still cutting off the right and bottom edges.  Thanks for the PDF idea.  I'll just have to save any filled-in sheet and print it that way.  It's just frustrating because there's apparently no reason for it to be doing that.

Oh, well.  Back to my regularly scheduled programming.

Hi October,

To quote the rules "Initiative Modifier (IM): Typically zero (+0), adjusted by race and weapon size". So your right, I forgot to put in a field for that, oops! The Chimera S1-S2 sheet will have to be updated.

On the Chimera P3 Beta automated CSD sheet in the Race Perks block I did put a small field in to capture the IM for Race. It gets updated when you choose your race, as do the perks there.

Sorry to hear of your printer woes. I'll get an ink cartridge this weekend and see what Happens when I print directly to paper from CSD.
