We returned to Montana last night from Rochester, NY as proud owners of Cabo Rico 34 hull #6. We were able to complete the purchase and get her on the truck during the week that we were there. She's now somewhere in Indiana coming this way. She's a little neglected and needs some cleaning and waxing but we believe her to be in very good shape. She has been on the great lakes all but two of her 23 years and has only 650 engine hours.  We have been sailing for about 10 years, most of it on our San Juan 28. The CR34 will definitely be a challenge for us at first but we look forward to getting to know her and taking good care of her. The boat's name is "Jibbay Na Noodin" which I understand is Ojibwe indian for "Wind Spirit". There could definitely be a renaming ceremony in her future. Thanks to all of you who helped us out over the last few weeks by answering mundane questions about jack stands and things like that. I'm planning on reading the owners manual before I hit you with any more questions. Thanks again.

Ron

Congrats! Quick question..is that a fold-able swim platform that I see
in your transom? Was that a factory option or standard equipment for
that hull #.?

Congratulation Ron!
I'm sure you'll enjoy her.  Looking forward to hearing more.  The renaming ceremony is a lot of fun.  We had a big party for ours.  Many "spirits" involved in that ceremony.

Clay - That is a "European swim and anchor platform" and was a factory option. It also has a heavier than heck swim ladder that attaches to the swim platform after it's folded down. The setup will certainly have its plusses and minuses but I think it will be real nice for boarding from a dinghy or kayak. I'll post some pictures at some point if anyone is interested. Does anyone know of another Cabo with the factory swim platform?

Congrats Ron, both for making the purchase and for getting her ready for trucking all in the same week. It will take a bit of adjusting as you switch from the San Juan, but you'll no doubt love the boat. We moved from an O'Day 27 to the CR34 and couldn't be happier . . . except that everything costs three times as much.

BOAT = Break Out Another Thousand.

Cheers

Can you take a picture of what the platform looks like when it's in
the down position? Don't know of another CR with that setup..

Ron, Congratulations on your purchase of your CR 34!  We will look forward to hearing from you and your adventures sailing in Montana.

We saw a very nice Pacific Seacraft (34 or 37 if I remember) there about 3 years ago but I think you will give them a run for the prettiest boat on that lake.  Trust me, you will never get bored hearing how lovely your boat is.  We get compliments everywhere we go and it never gets old.  I am sure you will have the same thing.

Oh, yeah, Dave is so right...everything costs more.

Keep us informed as to the re-naming party.

with kind regards,

Leslie

Heh.

And yes, pictures are always welcome in this group :) Both open, closed, construction of the swim platform…the works.

I've seen this on a CR 45. I guess it was an option, if you were willing to pay for it.  That cannot be a cheap gadget.

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, but I have to agree with Leslie that she'll be the prettiest gal at the dance.

Just a quick note on stern swim ladders and platforms. If there is much wave action they are dangerous. I still have my stern swim ladder but have added a ladder amid ship that I can use if there is any wave action.
