| S'yenacit was not only a structure, religious but might be a sacrifice where s'yena was sacrificed to get the victory over the enemy through domesticated hawk like the as'vamedha. I have to check s'yenas'aastram for that which is published. Regards, spnarang --- On Mon, 10/17/11, Jagannatha s <jgra...@gmail.com> wrote: |
Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa might have heard this Homa bird story from the persons of Bengali folklore. I do not think Vedas mention any Homa bird according to the description made by Sri Paramahamsa.
2011/10/17 PARAMESHWAR PUTTANMANE <poorn...@gmail.com>
"The Vedas speak of the homa bird. It lives high up in the sky and there it lays its egg. As soon as the egg is laid it begins to fall; but it is so high up that it continues to fall for many days. As it falls it hatches, and the chick falls. As the chick falls its eyes open; it grows wings. As soon as its eyes open, it realizes that it is falling and will be dashed to pieces on touching the earth. Then it at once shoots up toward the mother bird high in the sky."
Source: from book "Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna"please describe me about homa bird story. And in which part of veda says this story?
Osho also described this story! But where this found from.?.....

| Dear Shri Parameshwar Puttanmane, Shri Ramakrishna used to talk to many Vedic, Tantric and other scholars and probably got this information about Homaa bird (< Vyoma-pak.sin ?) from a Vedic Pandit. Though it is yet to be traced from any Vedic text, Yogavaashi.s.tha Ramaya.na refers to such bird: vyomnaiva jaatana.s.taanaa.m mahataa.m vyomapak.si.naam / bandhunaabaddhanilayaan sharadabhrasamaak.rtiin // (Nirvaa.na Prakara.na, Puurvaardha 15.19) Reference to such kind of bird, it is said, may be available in J~naaneshvarii and Daasabodha in Marathi also. [See endnotes in the Ramakri.s.na Kathaam.rta (in Bengali), vol 2, 2nd ed., 6th rpt., Udbodhan Karyalaya, Kolkata, 2008]. Respected Sri Nabanarayan Bandyopadhyayji,This is really exciting information. I had been thinking that this story does not have any basis of Sam.skr.ta. Now I am fully convinced that it does have its roots in Yogavasis.t.ha. I checked the reference and got marvelled on seeing the verse you shown. Your view that Homaa might be apabhramsha of Vyoma is also fully convincing. Thanks a lot.SJ
