I've been playing the PC version of Blood Bowl for a while.  I really enjoy the game play - it has a great mix of tactics and mayhem.  I would like to introduce it to a few of my friends, but they don't have game-worthy PCs..so I'm tinkering with the idea of getting into the "real" Blood Bowl.  So my question is:  What's the best way to get started?

Thanks!

Easiest way is to grab a copy of the box set and the latest living rulebook you can find on the net (I have one somewhere if you have trouble finding it)
The box set minis aren't as nice as the metal team specific ones, but you'll get your pitch, measuring stick, mini footballs and enough players to field a team of humans against a team of Orcs.
Orcs and humans are very well rounded and well matched, so it's a good way to be introduced to the game.

Thanks a lot! :)  Any recommendations about the best place/service/price to get the box set you speak of?

Last I heard, there were rumors (maybe just wishes?) that perhaps a new version of Blood Bowl might be coming out this year! As I mentioned, this may just have been merely wishful thinking, and far be it from me to suggest you "just wait until later this year" because by then another rumor may have surfaced, and so forth and so on... But I just wanted to throw that out there.

I had to get mine online, hasn't been for sale down here in many years. I went with games workshops online store, they ship direct and aren't any more expensive than ordering through a shop for the most part.

You might be able to get a cheap one from eBay or even bgg when it comes back, but I haven't seen a lot for sale. It seems to be one of the most popular of gw's abandoned specialist lines.

Make a pitch.

Buy the requisite 22+ figures, or make some tokens. (Hint - the
markers for Crash Tackle work JUST FINE! and you can print them off.)
If you don't mind other people laughing at you, meeples with numbers
work, too.

Download the living rule book from games-workshop.com in the
specialist games section for blood bowl, from the Blood Bowl Resources
link.

I have heard that rumour too, that they might release a version similar to how they released dreadfleet, but afaik nothing like that has been confirmed by gw.

Given the absurd cost of figures and the highly limited range of figures available I really do think the best way of getting into Blood Bowl is to make your own teams. Come up with a nice, attractive and functional team and you'll be able to expand it and add more teams easily and cheaply.

I have 22 complete (16+ player) teams, and all the star players, and I'm loving the freedom to pair up any of the available teams and introduce other people to the game. Wouldn't be possible if I tried to collect miniatures.
