Wondering if this is just me, but the command-\ and command-option-\ commands in 10.5 do not seem to do anything at all, in any of the beta version.

However, I only have BBEdit installed for one user (me) on my main machine, so did I futz up something?

I removed the BBEdit keybinding file "Library/Application Support/BBEdit/Setup/Menu\ Shortcuts.plist" but that made no difference.

currently I have to select the paragraph, then access the menu with the option key don in order to wrap the text (If I don't select the entire document is hard-wrapped, which is bad).

On my machine, I find

• Cmd-\ works in BBEdit

• The system claims opt-cmd-\ for image smoothing while zooming (System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Accessibility)

At some point these shortcuts stopped working for me as well ... going back to early versions of BBEdit 10.1. I can reassign the menu actions to different keys, but for whatever reason, command-\ and command-option-\ fail to trigger anything.

I'd like to blame it on some other piece of software running on my system that is globally hijacking those shortcuts ... but I have yet to locate the source of the conflict.

I mailed Bare Bones support about this a week or so ago; they said that 1Password is the source of the issue, that narking keythief! Hopefully the issues that cause this are resolved soon.

In the meantime, I've remapped ⌘\ to ⌘', like the old Rewrap Quoted Text.

Do either of you have 1Password installed?

Yes, I do.

And dear Mr Kendal pointed out in a previous post that this was likely the source of the conflict:

The real issue for me is that it's sporadic. Sometimes it interferes, sometimes it doesn't.

Same here, but it has been manifesting itself since at least BBEdit 10.1. I've removed the preferences from 1Password but it doesn't seem to matter.

I send a support request to AgileBits about this and they're aware of it.

Here's what they said:

"We do have this listed as a known issue. Our understanding of the bug so far is that we set the shortcut when a browser window is in front, then release when it isn't. Specifically with BBEdit, this is affecting the Text > Hard Wrap command. We're aware of it and looking into it. Unfortunately, I do not know when we will have a fix available."

This is very interesting because it seems to me to be completely limited to BBEdit 10.5. I’ve never had a problem with this in 10.1 or 9.x, and I’ve been running 1Password since it came out. If I launch 10.1 on this MacBookPro, hard wrap works. If I launch 10.5, it doesn’t.

If I change the BBEdit preference to use command-' and command-option-' it all works.

I think it was only 10.x. I checked my sent mail and filed the bug report in Sep 2011.
