So it seems we have at least 4 people on the list building a Rostock - Me, Tim, Charles, and Bryan if I remember correctly from the names I just read off of the other thread 5 seconds ago.

So we should probably all share some parts. Or rather, I should share my parts - I ordered screws from McMaster and many of them came in packs of 25 when I only needed 3, so I'd love to offload them for a few bucks or some beers. Also I'm using a Printrboard so I ordered all the mating connectors from Digikey for that, and I believe Bryan said he was using one of those. They're cheap so I got loads extra of those.

For belts, I ordered them from a place that has a minimum order of 5, so I ordered six and Tim is splitting them with me. Charles and Bryan if you don't have belts you may want to do the same. See my post on the deltabot mailing list for more info, and I'd suggest joining that if you haven't.

I've been working all summer on a big project and my deadline is this sunday, so while I will continue to work on it after, I should finally be able to go to some meetings again in the coming weeks, and that would be a great opportunity for us to all split up any parts we have.

One thing I haven't sorted out is the Plywood. It needs to be thicker than the laser at Techshop can cut (though perhaps doubling it up and gluing it would work) so I was planning on cutting it out by hand. If any Techshop members are well-versed with the Shopbot though and wanted to make themselves the plywood, I'd love it if they made a couple extras for me (and anyone else?). If thats an option lets talk more about it - the plywood isn't really fully defined yet as most people do it by hand.

Alternatively, someone could laser it out of thin plywood and then that could make a nice template for cutting it out of thicker plywood by hand. I have some wood for the laser at home but am no longer a TS member.

Builders - Assemble! (wow, I didn't even intend for that to be a pun...)

One of the "Bills" has had one built for the last couple of weeks.  Taylor, you really ought to swing buy more often ;)

Hah, I know! The meetings used to compete with weekly dinners at a house with lots of cute girls, but these days I haven't been going to either!

How did it look? Was it printing?

lol. i've been consumed with work too.
i'm good on belts, going with mxl currently.   a friend went with a printrboard and hated how he had to load the fw.

not sure about the base yet either, my setup isn't a normal build.. based off of alu extrusions.

Yeah I heard something about the printrboard shipping with the wrong bootloader. I don't know if that's been resolved, but I'm used to programming AVRs so I'll figure that out. I got the impression that once its solved you can go back to using the Arduino environment.

For MXL, there seems to be some confusion about their suitability for repraps:

I'll let you guys know if I come up with a good base design. I called techshop and they said the laser will actually do 3/8" thick wood, which might be enough. Otherwise does anyone know if you could pull off 1/2" by hitting both sides?

I think I'd like to make some printable angle brackets to screw everything together, to avoid having to screw into the edges of the wood. That would allow thinner wood to be used without as much trouble (obviously it might be less rigid though).

That's cool.  Never seen this type of 3d printer before.

You can add me to the list of crazies trying to build one of these...although, I'm guessing that this is a subset of people who attend the meetings. When/where are they? I'd like to get plugged in. I'm new to the 3D printing world.

Anyone have tips on building the Rostock? I'm planning to stick with the specifications as outlined, but if that's a bad idea, I'd like to know sooner than later.

I built one!  It works good now.  All my changes were to stiffen up the platform.  I switched to carbon fiber tubes for the rods.  I replaced the joint with machined Delrin plastic.  I thing brass joints would be even better.  Also changed to 3 linear LM8UU bearings on the carriage.  I have attached a stl file of my carriage.  I did the modification to add the belt tensioner but not sure yet if this was necessary.
I bring it to the Wed night Bay Area Reprap Meeting at the San Jose Tech Shop.
