Hi allYes it's me, back from self-imposed exile! For a long while I have resisted the urge to complain about the terrible signs going up on Brisbane's new roads. Unfortunately I can't stay silent any longer. The signs installed by BrisConnections in/around Airport Link are absolutely horrendous. As you have seen in the photos just about everything is wrong -- font sizes, spacing, layout... and what the heck is with the ugly posts? We do not get category 5 cyclones here every year!I have started putting together an alternative. The link below outlines my strategy for signposting along Lutwyche Rd post-Airport Link. I hope to put up my ideas for the mainline tunnel and the massive Bowen Hills and Kedron interchanges soon.As always, all comments and feedback are welcome!RegardsTrent

Good photos. The views from some of those overpasses are amazing.Whilst the new signs aren't entirely agreeable, they're a lot better than many of the signs on East-West Arterial and the ICB. I would suggest that they're on par with many of the 1990s signs seen in NSW.

I actually submitted schemes to the former head of the metropolitan district. He was interested but said there was nothing he could do apart from cover plate existing signs. No money.
I also contacted BCC re signage around the Go Between Bridge however they were satisfied because the signs were designed by a member of an engineering association. Following their logic accountants could not have been responsible for the Enron collapse.
I this case BrisConnections are responsible for erecting the signs. QMR has to sign off on them but as we've seen there are issues around training (TraSiCAD) and quality control processes.

In my scheme replacing road names with 'TOLLWAY' and 'MOTORWAY' simplified everything dramatically. Doing away with road names altogether would make it simpler still.
One of the key reasons QMR introduced freeway numbering in the 1970s was to reduce the size of signs and improve legibility. We've gone back to the stone age in recent years.
As a motorist I don't care that one half of this road is called 'Clem Jones Tunnel' and the other half 'Airport Link Tunnel'. If they must name them, place a sign by the tunnel portals.
