I was thinking about notification feature which alerts user if selected station/object is present, or was received new beacon from.
It should be selected to announce station in selected area (radius) from currect (selectable) location, or any station set in favorite list (probably different than current favorite list).
The notification itself could be by pop-up message on the screen plus acoustical if possible. As an adition, user could select if the map should center and zoom at station (temporary or permanently?).

I was going to point to the same place! Any code that I don't have to
write is good :)

But yeah, it'd be nice to have some alerts in the UI, ones which could be
activated easily through the map interface and would only do the alert
with sound + popup while the web UI is open. At the moment I don't have
time to concentrate on that, though.
