Hey everyone, I just wanted to post a brief announcement about the Vancouver Polyglot {un}conference, an event at was at least in part inspired by ALT.NET Seattle (specifically the part where someone said to me why doesn't ALT.NET Vancouver do an event so people have an excuse to road trip). Anyways we've decided to make it entirely non-denominational, something I know will appeal to all here.

There are already Github and Erlang tutorials planned for Friday. @briandorsey may also be doing a "code an HTTP server from scratch" session as well and there may be one more. Saturday is the open-space and Sunday they *may* be an all-day Hackathon, we are working out the details for that still.

Oh and there will be an "out on the town" downtown Vancouver sort of pub-crawly thing Saturday night with free drinks and such. Which should be a lot of fun.

Anyways, I wanted to extend a personal invite to all of you and just say that we really are looking forward to seeing you guys up here.

Trying to propose a tutorial (Scala and/or F# and/or tell-me-what-sounds-interesting), but the captcha on the eventbrite site keeps no-showing and refusing to take my email. So I resort to this public forum to respond—would a Scala and/or F# tutorial be of interest?

Just a note, this is Memorial Day weekend in the U.S (Monday is a holiday). Not sure if that will be a bonus or deterrent.

By the way, for those who haven’t seen Matt McCullough talk about git, it’s very well done. (Matt is a buddy of mine from the No Fluff Just Stuff tour days.)

Hard to say, probably 50/50. It's May long weekend the weekend before in Canada and there are a number of other events we were avoiding, so we made the best choice we could.

BTW Brian's tutorial has been confirmed:  http://www.polyglotconf.com/tutorials/#http

Updates:

First, we will be adding one more tutorial on advanced Javascript by Alan Pike of Steam Clock Software in Vancouver. It isn't up yet but should be soon. That should be it for new tutorials.

Second, Mozilla is going to be hosting the Hackathon on Sunday at their new Vancouver offices. Tickets for the hackathon are not yet available though and space will be limited so you may want to subscribe to the polyglotconf.com RSS feed to get notification when they do.

Third, we are having people start session proposals early and online. This is mainly to satisfy some of those who are unfamiliar with an open space are not confortable knowing what will be discussed and what is happening in advance. The top ideas here will be used to seed the actually session selection in the morning. It should also save us a bit of time in the morning. You can propose sessions here:
