Been thinking about Eckankar history a long time. Dr. Louis Bluth was
reportedly the first president of Eckankar.
Was also, reportedly, Paul Twitchell's personal doctor.
According to David Lane & Doug Marman one could get the impression
that Paul Twitchel didn't meet Dr. Bluth until after Eckankar was
founded, 1965-1966, etc.
Personally, I'm not taking anything for granted.
Following is a summary of information about Louis Bluth that I
compiled over the years. I can't vouch for the credibility of all
excerpts and quotes. Some could very well be heresy and / or incorrect
information. Judge for yourself and check everything.

"Years before Eckankar, Dr. Louis Bluth had attempted to take over the
Rosicrucian's and failed.

Eckankar and then turn into an apostate."

"Secondly, Dr. Bluth may have loaned Paul his Radhasoami books, but
this explains nothing about The Far Country, since Paul had written
his book years before Dr. Bluth met him. The Far Country was written
in 1963-1964. Dr. Bluth didn't meet Paul until 1966 or 1967." [-

"Yes, Dr. Bluth was a student of Radha Soami Beas Satsang, where Sawan
Singh taught. I believe he started studying with Paul in 1967. There
were a number of Kirpal's students as well as Beas Satsang students
that joined Eckankar back in those days. I don't think it was every
a large percentage, however." [Doug Marman]

"My understanding is that Dr. Bluth was a follower of Radha Soami
Satsang Beas, which means that after Sawan Singh died, Jagat Singh was
the Guru for a short period and then Charan Singh became the Guru. The
Beas group was opposed to Kirpal's splitting off and forming his own
teaching. So, he would not have had any love lost over Kirpal. I
believe Dr. Bluth first met Paul around 1966."

*Trivia: "In a lecture by Bluth that I (TianYue) attended, Bluth
stated that he followed Radhasoami for 17 years before he joined
Eckankar. Bluth was an acupuncturist as well as an MD (a bit of trivia
for you, Etznab.) He was rather full of himself, in my view. - Tianyue

(1960s)
"DARWIN GROSS WRITES: While on the subject, let me say that The
Tiger's Fang was written in 1956 by Paul up in the Seattle area, I
believe it was, where he was at the time, either that or back in
Washington DC working on a newspaper. And it was Dr Bluth who refused
to loan Paul the $1,000 to publish this book, which eventually was
printed."

[Compare with the following.]
"Secondly, I [Patti Simpson] had been close friends with the Drs.
Bluth who were close to Paul. They told me they had been highly placed
devotees in Rhada Soami for seventeen years. But when they read The
Tiger's Fang, they knew that Paul had gone places the RS masters had
never even known of and they were so blown away they left RS and
became loyal students of Paul."

was started in 1965." [- David Lane, September 1997]

*Trivia: " [....] Here is what was published in The Mystic World two
months after Paul passed on:
The official cause of death was a heart attack. The separation
was immediate and Doctor Louis Bluth, 7th Initiate who was hastily
summoned witnessed Paulji ascending in the company of the Masters of
the Vairagi. He realized that efforts to revive the body would come
to no avail although every medical effort was made.
So apparently there was no confusion about the official cause of
death after all. [....]"

"Millie Moore told me [Doug Marman?] personally that Bluth thought
Gail was a dumb female and thought he could push her into announcing
him as the Living ECK Master. Millie said Bluth was none too subtle
about his thoughts that he should be the chosen one." - Doug Marman
"Chet Tuttle was later fired by Gail from Eckankar when he confronted
her with Paul's will and other documents stating he had picked Louis
Bluth to be the next Eck master. This caused a big riff in the Eck
community and many dropped out of the path. Later, Gail and Darwin
married, that kind of finished it off for all the rest of the 'old
timers' that were involved with anyting to do with the office.

"I recall that Doc Bluth then left Eckankar and took a few chelas with
him. I never heard of him again as any kind master or leader, but
David Lane dug him up somehow in 1980 to get his 'apostate letter'. I
imagine he's long dead now.

"She (Gail) began to get calls from a few of the prominent leaders,
such as the ECKANKAR office manager and Dr. Bluth. They told her that
the whole teaching would fall apart without a leader and that no one
else except her could say who that leader should be, since she was the
closest person to Paul. They urged her again and again to do
something. But Gail told them exactly what she had told Paul: It was
Paul's choice and he was going to have to make it. She wasn't. [....]"

3-4% of the whole membership. [....]"

The following excerpt is THE REASON I did some research and wrote this
thread.
(1980)
June 19th, 1980: "Excerpted from a letter by Dr. Louis Bluth, former
President of Eckankar, one-time follower of Sawan Singh, and Paul
Twitchell's personal doctor when the Eck leader died in 1971:
Date: June 19, 1980
My wife and I opened the first Eck class in Sun City, Cal. I
personally treated Paul [Paul Twitchell] many times and was the main
speaker in Cincinnati when he passed away. Paul was a sincere student
in the beginning and I considered him honest. Problems between him and
his wife Gail led him to believe she was going to leave him and he
desperately wanted to keep her. So when she demanded more money and
better living, he started to write things and copy from other books.
He [Paul Twitchell] borrowed my books on Radha Soami and copied a
large share from them. I helped him write the Herb book and went to
Riverside University and took Sanskrit, so basically much of the
material is good because it is copied. I confronted him [Paul
Twitchell] with what he had done and his answer was "since the author
of the book said it better than I could I copied it." The trouble is
that he never gave anyone credit as to where he got it.
As far as Darwin (Gross) is concerned, my opinion is that he is
a fake as a Master. I don't think that a Master would divorce his wife
and seek many other female companions. Signed: Louis Bluth, M.D.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eckankarhistory/message/1434
Bluth talks about how he and his wife opened the first Eck Class in
Sun City?
Bluth says: "Paul was a sincere student in the beginning ...?
THIS IS VERY CURIOUS TO ME! VERY CURIOUS.

Lastly, I found something about a Louis M. Bluth giving a talk about
"Scientific Proof of Immortality" ... apparently in Chicago, in 1921.
This needs further research, because I don't know Dr. Louis Bluth's
(of Eckankar fame) middle initial.
http://newspaperarchive.com/chicago-star-publications/1921-11-10/page-5?tag=sun+city+dr+louis+bluth&rtserp=tags/sun-city?pep=dr-louis-bluth
Moreover, Bluth would have been around 27 years old in 1921. It
appears he came from Michigan and possibly lived in Chicago and then
New York. This is based on the following 1948 article.
"[...] He has been practicing for 26 years first in cago [Chicago?]
then New York City and for the past seven years in Berrien Springs He
will interview a re- cent chiropractic college graduate in his
broadcast tomorrow. [... .]"
http://newspaperarchive.com/the-news-palladium/1948-03-10/page-13
[Bluth was about 54 in 1948. 1948 - 26 years equals 1922. Bluth was
around 28 in 1922.]
Was that Louis M. Bluth who in 1921 gave a talk in Chicago the same
Louis Bluth who later became the first President of Eckankar? This is
NOT A CONFIRMED FACT. So don't take it as one.

If anybody learns the middle initial of the late Dr. Louis Bluth,
please post.
