Now that the RCA/AR Personal Portal web site is down I wonder if there is going to be any way to maintain the Favorites list on the RIR200 internet radios?  Does anyone know if there Is there a way to use FTP or Telnet to get into it?

Is it permanently down or is it a transient outage?

I knew it wouldn't last forever, but this is one reason I'm not so thrilled about storing everything in the cloud. When it goes away you're left with a boat anchor that would otherwise be useful.

I've been using my ARIR200 all morning long selecting different favorite presets and yesterday I had a power outage that required my to reboot it so it loaded favorites from there successfully. Maybe just the management web interface is down or they're updating it.

The radio still works, just the RCA/AR portal site is down. The one that  Ermitaño suggested still works though.

The RCA site I have been using now has a strange message saying to contact customer service. Unfortunately there's nothing about the radio on the site referred to or any link to the Audiovox site.

"From its inception, the Personal Portal for Acoustic Research Infinite Radio Systems was managed by a 3rd Party Partner.  Unfortunately the Personal Portal has experienced problems that are beyond our ability to repair.
We understand and want to assist you in fixing any issues you are experiencing."
Please contact customer service for further assistance

I just logged in successfully to

http://portal.audiovoxinfiniteradio.com/setupapp/rca/asp/BrowseStations/StartPage.asp?sMsg=PREMIUM

and was presented with the same list of presets/favorites and everything else that I have grown accustomed to seeing. I know this same radio was marketed under different brands so that might account for why some are cut off and others can continue. I guess Audiovox still has a deal going where RCA might have expired.

I can login to my account but cannot open a new account to add a second radio.  The logos at the bottom don't open a page to sign up.

Any solutions?

I am trying to pull more details from the Customer Support for Audiovox, but I'm just getting canned responses for right now.  The portal link for new signups seems to be all that has been taken down.  Existing accounts that are already setup on the portal seem to work fine, as others have mentioned.   It's the signup system that has been rendered useless for whatever reason.  I bought a second radio as well and it irks me that last week I could have added the radio to a new account just fine but not this week!

Audiovox/RCA aren't the only ones that use this portal system.  It's a "Vtuner" system but the other manufacturers on it don't seem to have a "signup page" I can look at that resembles the old AR signup process at all.  Otherwise I would have hacked something together by now to bypass the problem and get my radio on a new account.

Really just seems like Audiovox/RCA dropped the ball and aren't wanting to pick it up.

When we live in The Cloud, it's easier to get rained on.

It costs money to keep these sites up. If the radio is no longer producing a profit for the company then they consider the web site to support it to be a cost center and it gets the meat axe. I know they want to gather all this valuable tracking information on us lab rats, but the downside is that when they tire of us we get kicked to the curb.

I want an internet radio that stores its settings internally. It's not like it needs to share it with any other device anyway.

I was just on with a live chat assistance person. It is still possible to use the menu to set up stations and save them to your favorites. I'd always used the portal for this, but apparently you can do it on the radio itself.

Yes you can save stations on the radio itself but it might not have any you want to save unless they are listed on Vtuner and actually show up on the radio.

She said the personal portal web page was gone, done, finito. We're on our own now. If your radio hasn't been registered, and doesn't work, I didn't get the impression there was anything that they could, or would do. Sorry about that.

Most radios can be configured yourself I think except the AR and Frontier Silicon models based on Vtuner. Any Reciva based radio can be, which is most of the models still being offered for sale these days as well as the Roku Soundbridge, great if you can find a used one. The IR168, like the ones sold by Kaito can be too except they have been abandoned by the maker and are obsolete now too. I think they are abandoning internet radios since everyone can get the same stations now on their smart phones and TV set top boxes like the Roku and Android 4.0 Mini PC's. If you haven't heard of the Android 4.0 Mini PC it's a little thumb drive sized device that's similar to the computer section of a smart phone running Android. They use HDMI to connect to a TV for picture and sound.  They run apps from the Play store like Dolphin browser, TuneIn Radio, Sky.FM, Pandora, Spotify and Winamp. They can also play videos of streaming podcasts and Youtube as well as Gmail. They have a lot of limitations though since there is no touch screen, GPS or analog audio output, just HDMI, so you can't install a lot of apps and some of the ones that install like Netflix won't run. They cost around $45-$50.  They haven't turned up in stores yet but there are a lot on Amazon and Ebay.

Interesting thing… thx for info. But I liked AR because it all-in-one (not bad speakers, display, not bad look…), one bad think — AR dont have remote controller. In fact in kitchen I need just the music/radio & I have small stand with AR on it.

By the way, t
he second possibility buy could be Aluratek, what you now about it? But, I suspect that it is also thrown by creators.

I haven't used an Aluratek but I suspect it's as good as any. They have new models with wi-fi that gets 802.11N while the other don't.  However it uses Vtuner so you can't add stations directly to the radio, you have to login to the website at http://aluratek.vtuner.com.  This is similar to how Frontier Silicon models work.  That means it only stays updated as long as the website is up.

This is a good summary. I didn't know all that, so thank you for posting.

I agree with the view that the demand for discreet internet radios has dropped off because of smart phones. It would be nice to drop my Samsung into a dock and listen that way, but I don't like tying up my phone to dedicate to other tasks because invariably I get a phone call or text message and it interferes with listening. All the apps that I have found are slaved to a cloud server to store their settings which is the same problem facing Infinite Radio users now. Even worse, they restrict the user to selections presented by their search engine or their own listings and they don't accept non-music feeds that I like to listen to. I want the ability to type in the URL regardless of what or where it is and just listen without their interference in the selection process. The apps that I have tried do not allow this.

Maybe the best thing would be a small device that can be hooked to amplified speakers so you can get any desired sound out of it you want. If it has no screen at all and is configured via web browser that would reduce cost and complexity without the dead end of being slaved to a web site that disappears when the vendor moves on to other projects or goes out of business. This sounds like something LifeHacker should enjoy taking on. It might be a good DIY project.

Although this reflector is specifically for the Acoustic Research
ARIR200 Internet Radio, this could apply to other units as well. Anyway,
I am just wondering if anybody here has paired an internet radio with an
HD radio? The reason I is ask is because I ran across some articles
recently on what to do with an old smartphone. Some uses are MP3
player, GPS function, and internet radio. So, I got to thinking that
this can work either way. By that, I mean a person with a stand alone
HD radio can take their old smartphone, connect them with a patch cord,
and no the HD radio is both an HD radio and an internet readio.
Conversely, someone with a stand alone internet radio, be it an Acoustic
Research ARIR200 Internet Radio or something else, could buy a used or
clearance HD radio, even one like this,
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insignia%26%23153%3B+-+HD+Radio+Portable+Player/9375071.p?id=1218094581941&skuId=9375071
and have BOTH an HD radio and an internet radio.

In addition to my Acoustic Research ARIR200 Internet Radio, I have a
Logitech Squeezebox internet radio. I connected my Insignia HD Radio
Portable Player Model NS-HD01 to it and it sounded pretty decent.
Granted, most of the time I will be listening to internet radio, but I
kind of like the idea of having an HD radio, too.

In fact, if you want to take this a step further, my Casio G'zOne
smartphone can be connected, and I now have a way to watch SlingBox and
amplify the audio a bit through the Logitech radio.

Anyway, lets here it, are YOU feeding anything else into your internet
radio via the LINE IN jack?

What kind of bogus situation is this? Broken and can't fix it?

From its inception, the Personal Portal for Acoustic Research Infinite Radio Systems was managed by a 3rd Party Partner.
Unfortunately the Personal Portal has experienced problems that are beyond our ability to repair.
We understand and want to assist you in fixing any issues you are experiencing.

Clearly, this is a lie. They say they can't fix it but want to assist in fixing issues? Why can't they partner wth with another company handling VTuner?
