As regards Paris public transport, you can visit this site: http://www.ratp.fr/

In particular, the Paris area (Ile-de-France) is divided into 5 zones: Paris is zone 1 (and maybe some parts in zone 2), the other zones include larger areas.

The ticket price depends on the zone you want to cover.

A single metro ticket (all in zone 1) costs 1,70 €.

A full-day ticket costs 6,40 € (for zones 1-2).

There is also a ticket, called "Paris Visite", specifically thought for visiting Paris and the surrounding area; the prices (for zones 1-3) are the following:

1 day:    9,75 €

2 days: 15,85 €

3 days: 21,60 €

5 days: 31,15 €

Dear Sami

  I made two bookings at hostels close to our summer school venue. One is called Smart Place Paris and another one is a hostel reffered by Summer school organizers. Both are around 200 euros for 5 days, (9 to 13th July). Now one booking is expire today and they are asking me to make the payment for confirmation other wise it would be lost after today. If you want I can pay for you and the booking would be under my name and then we can go together at the place and you can stay and reimburse me the amount.

Mail me soon if you want me to do this otherwise I would get my rservation cancelled.

ps: they took 20 days to respond to my request for reservation so I fear if you want place to stay with this rate... this is no miss opportunitiy. see if it suits you and better call me at 00966531561042.
