Went to Whitetail's Return Instructor Meeting today, and got some good news to share with our people here:

1. For beginners and/or never-evers, please mark your calenar 12/23/2013.  The famous $39 Lean-to-Ski/Snowboard deal is coming again this season from opening day to 12/23/2013.  You pay $39 to get equipment rental, a lesson, and a lift ticket.

2. Please mark your calendar on every Wednesday in January for the $39 deal too.

3. If you are interested in taking advanced group lessons, I will be at Whitetail most Sunday.  Private lessons are also available upon request.

Good news!  Whitetail is opening this Friday, 11/29/2013, with regular hours 8:30AM to 10:00PM.  It will remain open on Saturday and Sunday as well.  There is "a remarkable amount of snow on the trails" (according to our insider)!  I strongly recommend the $39 deal for beginners.

Now it is official ... Whitetail's Opening Day is This Friday (November 29th at 8:30 am).  The Early Season Deals are:

Opening Day thru December 23rd, you can get a $39 First Class Learn To Ski or Snowboard Package and $10 Lessons. What A Great Deal!

Which means ... If you are a never-ever or a beginner, you can buy the First Class Learn To Ski or Snowboard Package for $39, including equipment rental, a beginner lesson, and a lift ticket.  If you don't need a beginner lesson, you could buy a regular earli-season lift ticket for $39 also to have the access to some blue trails, and optionally $10 for an advanced lesson.

 

I am thinking about going there on Saturday to start my first teaching day for this season.  If anyone is interested in going together, let me know.

Fantastic!  Look at the weather report ... Whitetail will have get another 4" new snow tomorrow!  The temperature will stay low this whole week ... which means the powdery stuff will hold till next weekend!  You got to go, not only for $39 deal but also for the fresh powder!

Whitetail received another snow dumy on Tuesday.  We have been having low temperature these few days there.  As you know that the good snow will hold pretty well in the low temperature, Whitetail's snow guns keeps blowing snow day and night.  Now it is like a wild west world with deep snow base (see attached photo).  I am going to ski Whitetail this weekend.  Please let me know if anyone is interested in going together.

wow, that is really early. we plan to leave around 8:30 and get there by 10

Trust me for the best way of enjoying powder at Whitetail:

 

1. Arrive there early before 9 AM, and start skiing at 9 AM for the (almost) first track.

2. Start the first run from the Snowpark (EZ Rider Quad lift) for a warm up.

3. After that, move to Limelight (Whitetail Express Quad).  Stay there while it is empty.

4. When Limelight start getting people, move to Snow Dancer and Fanciful.  Stay there while they are empty.

5. When the front side gets crowded, move to Angel Drop - Homerun.

6. Go to Base Lodge to take the lunch break before 11:30 AM when the lifts get long lines.

7. Back to the slope before 1 PM when people rush to lunch.  (Emtpy mountain now.)  Maybe another warn-up run at Angel Drop.

8. Attack back side in the afternoon because the sun softens up the backside snow, and because the front side is getting messy.

9. When people realize frontside is very messy and realize there is a backside to ski, you are done with the perfect ski day!  (When people are moving to backside, you call it a day and go back to Base Lodge for a cup of hot cocoa/coffee.)

10. Leave Whitetail at around 5 PM.  Arrive Rockville before 7 PM for a dinner gathering with all ski friends.

If you are thinking about trying the latest skis (for free), here is a good opportunity.  Ski Center is hosting a demo day at Whitetail on 01/03/2014 starting at 9:30am to 3:30pm.  The lift ticket for that demo day is $35 only.  You need to get a ticket coupon from Ski Center anytime before going to Whitetail.

After two days of 70F summer in December with heavy rain, a lot of snow from last few weeks have been washed away.  The rain is finally over.  The temperature starts dropping sharply tonight.  Whitetail's plan is to keep their snow machines busy starting tonight - to make 6" of fresh snow every night!  I'll go to Whitetail most days this week.  If anyone is interested in going together, please let me know.

We had also single digit temperature last night.  It's 19F today at Whitetail.  I checked out their webcam last night and saw that snow machines were blowing snow like crazy.  They are still blowing snow at this moment.  I see piles of fresh snow everywhere on trails.  Tomorrow Christmas Day Whitetail opens at noon.  We will go to Whitetail tomorrow - will stop by Rockville at 10:30AM, arrive Whitetail at 11:40AM, ski half day, and leave at 4:30PM.

 

Since the snow condition is excellent, I'll ski Whitetail everyday the rest of this week.  Let me know if anyone wants to join.

We had a great time on Christmas Day today.  The snow was great (after non-stop 2 days of snow making).  All snow machines have been blowing white stuff even after we left the resort tonight.  I'll go there again tomorrow.  If anyone is interested in joining, please let me know!

Good news!  Whitetail is fully open starting today!  The temperature was mild, and the snow was soft!  We had a good skiing today at Whitetail.

I got back home from Whitetail just now.  Got up early at 5AM and started skiing (took a training) at 8AM this morning.  Taught 3 lessons non-stop since 10AM, and took another training at 4PM.  Today's Whitetail was - people mountain people sea!  I will be at Whitetail on Wednesday (New Year's Day).  There will be some New Year's Eve Parties at Whitetail:

We had cold temperature the past two days, and Whitetail has made tons of snow overnight.  We will go to Whitetail tomorrow (New Year Day) for good skiing!  Join us if you don't have other plan yet.  If you need my help to analyze your skiing to provide you some good feedback to work on, let me know beforehand so that I can find time and come to take a look.

 

If you are going, remember to get up early and arrive Whitetail before 8:30AM.  The snow condition will be great, but the crowd will be huge.  Start skiing at 9:00AM for the first track.  Go to restaurant for lunch before 11:30AM when the crowd rushes to lfit lines.  Go back to ski after lunch when the crowd rushes to the restaurant.  Skiing the backside diamond trails before 2:30PM when the visibility is still good.  Come back to ski the frondside after that, and call it a day around 3:30PM when the trails all get tampered by the crowd.

 

BTW, one reminder about Friday's Demo Day.  It is $35 lift ticket (see link), and you can try the latest and the best skis for free.

Carpool Rule

 

I found that in some other chinese ski clubs, they have established very good rules for members to follow regarding the carpool issue.  I think that we should do the same way.  Therefore, I recommend that going forward we need to follow the rules below:

 

1. You need to have ski/snowboard bag to carry your equipment in order to sit in other people's car.  You need to use boot bag to carry your boots also.

  (乘客若有攜帶裝備 - 必須全部放在袋子裡面才可以上別人的車)

2. Each passenger needs to pay the driver by following the rule of thumb:

  a. Only 2 people in the car (driver and one passenger) - $5 per hour of driving.

    (如果車內只有一個乘客 ... 乘客需負駕駛每小時 $5 車資)

  b. More than 2 people in the car (driver and two/three passenger) - $3 per hour of driving.

    (如果車內有二個以上的乘客 ... 每個乘客需負駕駛每小時 $3 車資)

  - For example, from DC area to Whitetail/Liberty, carpool fee is $15 if only one passenger in the car, and $10 if two or more passenger in the car.

    (例如說: 從華府地區去 Whitetail/Liberty 滑雪, 如果車內只有一個乘客 - 車資$15, 如果車內有二個以上的乘客 - 車資$10)

 

Hope everybody can follow above rules so that people are happy to provide carpool effort to help more friends.

It is snowing now!  This coming weekend will be one of the best ski days in this season!  Why?  See below:

1. After a busy New Year Day, I think that this coming weekend will have few crowd.

2. It's snowing today.

3. Tomorrow has low temperature (12F), so more powder will be generated from Whitetail's snow machines.

4. Weekend has mild temperature (30F) - the best temerature for skiing.

We had a snow dump yesterday at Whitetail.  Today's temperature is extremely low (7F) there.  Snow machines keep blowing out new snow.

The best day for skiing this season will be tomorrow!  Temperature 30F!  No big crowd!  Whitetail is a powder world!

I was at Whitetail today.  The condition was good, except it was cold today.

Tomorrow will be a perfect day for going skiing because of: 1. tonight's overnight snow, and 2. temperature will be 30+ to 40F (perfect temperature).

Just arrived home.  Today's Whitetail is (again) ... people mountain people sea!

The snow condition was great (soft - not as hard as yesterday).

The temperature was great - 30F+.

If tomorrow is your off day, you got to visit Whitetail because there won't be any people mountain people sea while the good condition is still there.

While we are having extremely low temperature these two days (4F = -16C), Whitetail received a foot of snow dump.  The low temperature will hold the dry powder in good condition.  This coming weekend will the the perfect time to go skiing because it will be back to 32F+.  Let's plan it now!  I'll go to Whitetail this coming weekend.  Please let me know if anyone is interested in going together!
