WELCOME TO THE SUSTAINABLE MEDIA CO-OPERATIVE CONSORTIUM CONSORTIUM (The Co-op)
"OPEN MEMBER"
GOOGLE GROUP

cooperativeenergy@googlegroups.com is the email you can use to message all "open members" of the The Co-op, to realise those solutions most expedient to the service of all life. All members of all groups of the co-operative are in this group.

By using this forum, you agree to the following:

1. Liability Waiver: If SMC team members drop the car on my foot, they will take me to the hospital, but I will not own the company. I agree to exercise appropriate caution when engaging in SMC activities, and I will not hold SMC or other team members accountable in any way for any injury I may sustain.

2. Noncompete: I can work for anyone I’d like to, forever, but I agree I won’t use technology and process used by SMC to directly compete against SMC without first obtaining written permission from SMC.

3. Transparency: Most of SMC’s innovations are pushed into the public domain quickly, to make the world a better place. Unless specified otherwise by using the non-disclosure agreement system, submissions to this co-operative are done so under the following license agreement that is open-source for non-commercial purposes whereby the submitter retains the commercial licensing rights but allows others to work freely for non commercial applications:

Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlikeCC BY-NC-SAThis license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms. View License Deed | View Legal Code

3.i Some technologies and techniques are protected by patents or trade secrets. I will not redistribute and will protect (encrypt, etc.) any information that SMC has made known to me is a trade secret, intending to be patented, copyrighted, or in any stage of the patent or copyright application process by using the smcoop-nda@googlegroups.com system.

4. My contributions to team SMC in time, services, dollars, goods, cookies, etc., are donations. SMC has made known that if they profit they intend to reimburse all donations, with appropriate interest, if and when responsible. I trust SMC to determine what is appropriate when it may be responsible, and I hold no legal claim or debt to the company.

5.  My inventions are my own if I want them. All SMC requires is that SMC has rights to use inventions I share with or invent with SMC in perpetuity and at no fee. I may choose to patent my inventions, gift them to SMC, or gift them to the public domain.

6.  Mandatory Arbitration: SMC and I both agree to settle any potential legal dispute through arbitration. This avoids court time and attorneys’ fees, and although the end result is often not what either of us would want ideally the results of court typically aren’t what either of us would want ideally, either.

7. All directors, officers, employees, trustees, and independent contractors of the corporation and all directors, officers, employees, trustees, and independent contractors of any subsidiary, successor or other entity engaged in a business relationship with the corporation (Referred to in this section as “Ahimsa Adherents”) shall make their best good-faith efforts to adhere to the Ahimsa Policy of the corporation which is stated on the ‘ethical policy’ page of the co-operative: http://www.sustainablemedia.co/ethical-policy/

HOW THE "BIG ROOM" APPROACH WORKS:

  • Here members of the co-op can submit projects and suggestions to the co-op to vote upon to receive funding or support from the co-operative. Project applications can also be submitted to the secretary here http://www.sustainablemedia.co/project-application/ we are working on installing a pairwise ranking feature:

  • We have discussions and post updates here that you can contribute to. All emails sent to this address will be recorded at the group forum: https://groups.google.com/d/forum/cooperativeenergy, so catchup on past activity and introductions there!

  • You can filter the output from this group so you get a daily digest of everything that is coming from the group but I think it is good practice to copy this email address for anything to do with building the co-operative so we have complete transparency for others to learn and build from

  • Please check the below discussion board for recent developments and past projects / introductions.

  • Our ethical principles work towards harmlessness and you must be familiar with them.

  • We only have one other rule and that is that if you are to claim someone is lying or that their work is in error then you must provide evidence to support your claims just as one must in presenting new theories. Each can reason for themselves based on the evidence.

More info if you want it:

0) The work we’re doing and will be doing next is visible in our “Backlog”, here:  http://sustainablemedia.co/taskboards

1) The Sustainable Media Co-operative Google Group: The Google Group email list is modelled after a big room, a collaborative work space, where we are all able to hear each other. We encourage each team member to email the team list with general questions and comments. Because of this, there are between 5 and 50 emails in a day- please don't feel you need to read them all! Just skim. If the subject line mentions a part of THE CO-OP you are working on, or says "Action Required" or "URGENT", please read those. Otherwise, please don't feel bad to even go several days, or even weeks without reading most emails. You can change your email address or email delivery preferences at any time so you receive a daily digest of just one mail a day or other settings at http://groups.google.com/group/cooperativeenergy

2) When you have 5 minutes, please  email an introduction or a link to your LinkedIN profile to the team (cooperativeeergy@googlegroups.com)! It would be great to have you say your background, related skills, and what you are most excited about doing with CO-OPERATIVE ENERGY. If you can include a link to your facebook or twitter, that’s awesome too.

All past introduction emails to the category > 'co-operative management' > 'membership' in the google group so all introductions of new members will be added there and are recorded there if you are interested to find out more about the other members of this group if you have just joined.

3) Each Thursday we have a “Stand Up” meeting over the phone, at 6pm GMT Please create yourself a calendar reminder, You are invited! We also have that same meeting on Skype Fridays at noon PST, to accommodate folks in different time zones. Just Skype 'cdmvsf'. We each say, in about 1 minute: what we each did last week, and anything blocking our progress. And that’s it! Then we demo the current project state to update everyone, and then we assign ourselves tasks (using kerika) that we each try to accomplish during the next week. ALL team members are welcome and encouraged to participate, even if they’ve been taking a break!

Some videos about us to share with your friends or dive deeper:

Our background, ethics, goals, or methods are presented in the training videos and materials on our main kerika whiteboard: http://sustainablemedia.co/?page_id=17

Looking forward to seeing your first post!
