Notes from TechCom's triage meeting on April 29, 2020.

Present: Daniel Kinzler, Kate Chapman, Tim Starling, Alex Paskulin, Timo Tijhof, Dan Andreescu, Niklas Laxstrom, Roan Kattouw

RFC T145604: Future of magic links

  • This is an older RFC that was assumed to be approved but never formally closed. The feature flag was added in MediaWiki 1.28, and there appears to be a good amount of discussion. We’re planning to put this on last call next week.

RFC T250406: Hybrid extension management | RFC T249573: Remove ability to install extensions and skins with composer

  • These RFCs deal with similar issues. It should be possible to use Composer to install and update extension files, but it should not enable/disable extensions or register autoload classes. There should be a clear policy demarcating the responsibilities of extension.json versus composer.json.

  • Moved T250406 to Phase 3 (Explore)

RFC T249065: Wikimedia Push Notification Service

  • This RFC was recently moved to Phase 4 (Tune) and continues to see active discussion.

  • RFC process reminder: Once stakeholder concerns and Architecture Principles have been addressed as part of Phase 4, the proposer should comment on the task to request that the RFC go on Last Call. For more information about the five-phase RFC process, see the wiki page.

RFC T249673: A modern and restrictive skin system using Mustache

  • This RFC is well-defined and has had some recent comments addressing feedback.

  • Moved to RFC phase 2 (Resource)

RFC T249419: Render data visualizations on the server

  • Following the recent discussion on IRC, the description for this RFC was updated to help reframe the proposal and capture open questions. There’s still need for discussion, especially around the editing experience.

RFC T208776: Introduce PageIdentity to be used instead of Title

  • Confirmed that this should be an RFC.

  • Further discussion required, especially around practical issues and options for refactoring.

RFC T248061: Remove IE 8 from basic support | RFC T249788: Remove Android 2.0+ from basic support in compatibility matrix

  • Both RFCs have seen some recent comments from stakeholders.

  • Moved T249788 to Last Call ending May 13, 2020 at 20:00 UTC (13:00 PDT, 22:00 CEST)

RFC T249380: Per namespace view restrictions

  • Moved to Phase 2 (Resource)
