Peter,

Definitely have your friend join and post the stolen bike to Where is my Bike Cambridge - Kitchener - Waterloo FB group, and monitor the page.

And if anyone’s missing a Colnago, I see there’s one with a pile of other bikes that were in downtown Galt this evening (post below). I often see bikes up the hill beside the Bridges and in the green space nearby, on the other side of the street, close to Shopper’s, where Water St splits. Also see a lot of people with bikes at Cambridge Vineyard church on Sundays. I don’t want to suggest they’re stolen, but… if my bike was missing I’d be looking at what’s there.

Best of luck to your friend. There are some success stories out there.

Susan

It’s an Opus Vox 1.0. Black frame with white lettering and white Rock Shox.

If anyone sees it, please contact me. Below is a picture of it.

Thanks,
Peter

It would help if people explained where/how the bikes were stolen to help the rest of us avoid a similar fate...

i.e. off car rack at puslinch would help the community know where to keep an extra eye open.

It was in the Fiddlesticks neighbourhood but it could be anywhere now.

This theft happened in one of the most common ways. Someone simply walked into an open garage, while the owner was doing some garden work, and nabbed it. It wasn't locked. He fell into the same "trap" that I fell into with my own mountain bike some years back. The exact same scenario.

I never leave my bikes in the garage any more, even if it's for a second. After the ride, they get cleaned up right away and get locked up in the house. They take up valuable space, but so be it. Also, I now have home security cameras mounted all around the property, too. Not taking any more chances.

Unfortunately the chances of recovery are almost nil. Bikes will go straight to efficient chop shops. They're a form of currency for many addict and dealers. The police does try to help if you're insistent, but the problem is that even when charged with possession, the penalty for getting caught is just a slap on the wrist and not a deterrent. It pays to steal. ☹

Following that FB group is helpful for keeping informed of how thefts are occurring.

The latest is from vehicle racks/carriers, even going so for as cutting the bike rack. Also lots of locked garage B&E. if you can't lock bikes in your house, locking them to something cumbersome inside your garage is a recommended strategy. One person has multiple bikes locked to a shopping cart with the wheels removed or something like that. Make it difficult, basically.

It was in downtown. Someone posted a video on Where is my bike Cambridge. It was in the video. I hunted down the guy who took mine and got most of my bikes back. Main Street Pawn in Cambridge is know to take stollen bikes and sit in them for a while.

Wait, you mean you’ve seen this Opus in a video? I’m looking on Facebook and can’t find it… there’s a recent clip of a guy by a trailer with some bikes, but I can’t see a match.

Isn’t the one pulling the trailer the Opus?
