The power switches currently used on the router tables don't prevent the routers from starting unexpectedly.  That happens when input power is re-applied unless the "STOP" paddle switches had previously been pressed and disconnected power.  The contactors shown below would prevent such unexpected and potentially dangerous startups.  Connecting them between the switches and the routers would allow the switches to continue working, but the green "1" switch on the contactors would also have to be pressed to start the routers.  Disabling and covering the contactors' red "0" switches would force users to use the "STOP" paddles to turn the routers off.  The redundancy would then allow users to safely install and remove router bits and make other adjustments without unplugging power.

Just wondering if this is a good idea. Definitely more convenient, however our process with the table saw and other power tools is to unplug them when changing the bit/blade. Might be a good idea to keep this consistent across the shop?

Lynn raises a good point on consistency.  Especially considering our user base

We do unplug the routers when changing a bit.
Jerry's comment is something I point out to students and new members during the HOST checkout. The switches are mechanical and if inadvertently left in the ON position when the Router is plugged in, they will start. Before plugging a Router in, you can push the OFF button, to ensure it won't start. Or we can add a different switch as Jerry points out.

Now that the shop has two ICS table saws, using their Disconnect Switches when changing blades/cartridges or making adjustments would save wear, tear, and damage to their power connectors.  The manual says that both the disconnect and main power switches should be off when doing those things.  Likewise using the E-Stop switches on the bandsaws might be worth considering for reliability and consistency.

From the ICS Manual: "11. Electrical Power Connection:
Your saw is shipped without a cord. The saw must be permanently connected to the building electrical system
in accordance with the National Electrical Code and any other applicable state and local codes. Extension
cords should not be used with this saw. Consult a licensed electrician if you are unsure how to properly connect
the saw to the building electrical system."

Here's an easier and less expensive way to deal with the auto-restart problem with the added benefit of motor overload protection.  It should be much safer but is apparently not UL certified - maybe we "buy it and try it"?
