Good news:

We've been contacted by IssueHunt, a new service for open-source
projects. Some of their sponsors are Microsoft and Jetbrains.

Contributors (you) can get paid for working on selected issues. We
received the first $80 as donation, so don't be shy and give it a try.

Our project page with a constantly updated list of issues (let me know
if you prefer to work on something else):

https://issuehunt.io/repos/119160553

Selected issues:
#22 Facial recognition $40.00
#60 Use TiDB instead of MySQL as default database $60.00 (half of it
is done, perfect if you like refactoring!)
#16 Simple password authentication $20.00
#13 Implement extended EXIF import $20.00

Other news:
- Our demo runs on TiDB instead of MySQL since a couple of hours, see
https://demo.photoprism.org/
- The CTO of TiDB actually contacted us and gave his approval for our
creative solution, see
https://github.com/photoprism/photoprism/issues/60#issuecomment-448470212
- Take care when updating to Go 1.11.4:
https://twitter.com/lastzero/status/1075138729877102592 (hashes in
go.sum can change!)
- Slides on related research are online (thank you Andrea!):
https://dl.photoprism.org/slides/Personal%20Photo%20Management%20and%20Preservation.pdf

I'm currently working on our blog post for gopheracademy.com and am
more than grateful for any feedback on this draft:
https://github.com/lastzero/gopheracademy-web/blob/personal-photo-management/content/advent-2018/personal-photo-management.md

You can contact me any time, should there be questions.

Have a Merry Christmas!
Michael

Hi Michael,

When is the deadline for the blog post? I can try to contribute with a short paragraph on photo selection if you like.

Deadline is 22nd, will be published on December 26.

I think that would be nice, but feel like they want something more
technical (=code) for this blog. All the other posts contain a lot of
code... it's already a lot of text, hopefully still interesting.

Ok, then it's better to save some space for the code.
