Hi all,

recently I proposed to start tagging easy to solve issues with ‘Quickfix’ [1]. As I now wanted to add tags to some tickets I realized that there are two fields used for tagging:

- Labels
- Tags (folksonomy)

Is there a reason for having two fields with (almost) the same purpose or could we remove one of them?

Hi,

I think I or someone else asked this question a couple of years ago.
Can't for the life of me find the post or the answer.

I believe the reason was historical inertial. I know most of the labelling/tagging was done using the tags field when I was QA, I assume it's still the same. I'd say get rid of the label field.

…then hereby I officially #propose removing the labels from Jira.

Though I think no one will complain, there are a couple of tickets that
use labels after all and I wouldn't just want to silently remove this
field without proposal. I'll remove it as soon as this has passed.

Regards,
Lars
