Looks like Google wants to really exercise our fingers and brains, with so many keyboard combinations it's like you are going to end up writing code. You have to constantly switch between Browse and Focus mode to be able to get to where you want to and on the page shared; I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - also a song by the band U2
My honest opinion, configure your Gmail to a desktop client like Thunderbird OR Outlook and save your self the trouble. Coincidentally I had to struggle with Gmail on the web just yesterday, as I had to get some verification code to help set up my daughters account, which is a child account and it cannot be configured to Forward mail to another ID or be configured with Outlook.
Sincerely,
