Magnification and Non-Visual Access?

When the version 2026.2 of NVDA will be released, it is no longer purely
a non-visual desktop access, because of the included magnifier. Is the
name NVDA still valid, accurate etc. for it? What do you think?

While true, now that NVDA (in 2026.2) has a magnifier, it does have wider appeal for low vision users (hopefully, anyway!) - we aren't looking to change the name at this time, and we definitely aren't losing focus on our main users. :)

Hello:

oI am a total blind user of NVDA, and imo the NVDA name is accurate, as always.

NVDA, in 2026.1 and before, has a speech viewer, and its dialogs are visible, so the fact that it offers, and its name is inspired, by a non visual access, it doesn't prevent a visual access to the computer.

I find very useful that a magnifier is included for low vision people.

Hi,

I was thinking the same when the feature came out. I was asking... If NVDA transforms itself into a so called access suite (a la Dolphin SuperNova (then sympely SuperNova, then SuperNova Access Suite, now SuperNova Magnifier&Screen Reader), Vispero's ZoomText and/or Fusion, and Orca on it's Sun Microsystem's years), could there be a name change? Maybe yeah. I even proposed many names on Mastodon (sorry I was not sleeping that time, it was midnight my time!). Since NVDA will take the throne after Orca as an open-sourced, free access suite... I'm still thinking...
