When I'm browsing a website and come across and edit field, NVDA will
say out of edit. This usually happens if I'm using my down arrow to read
the webpage I'm on. A friend has remoted into my computer a few times,
and he can't figure out why NVDa is acting like this. I have the latest
stable version of NVDA on windows 11. Thanks to anybody who can help me
out with this very strange and very annoying issue.

Greetings,

Check if you can get to the edit field by pressing the E key when in Browse mode. If yes, you should be able to interact with the edit field by switching to the Focus mode to type.

The simplest answer is that whenever you press any of the arrow keys to move the cursor out of the edit field, it exits the text box, which is why NVDA announces it.

I guess, the developers of that website or page might also have played a role in this, which I am not aware of.

Hi Shawna,

Please read the 12.1.15 Browse Mode section of the NVDA User's Guide:

https://download.nvaccess.org/releases/2025.3.2/documentation/userGuide.html#BrowseMode

And make sure the following settings are unchecked:

* Automatic focus mode for focus changes
* Automatic focus mode for caret movement
* Audio indication of Focus and Browse modes

And don't forget to tab down to the end of the Browse Mode Settings
dialog box and save the changes!

HTH! :)

John

Are you saying it says out of edit when you move out of the field or out
of edit when you leave the field by down arrowing farther?
