Greetings, all,
I hope everyone is doing well.
I used to rely on the Zoom Enhancements add-on, which allowed me to view chat in a more accessible format and control which alerts I heard. It no longer seems to work with the current version of Zoom.
Has anyone found a newer version, did some tinkering and created something similar, or discovered a good workaround that makes Zoom quicker and easier to use?
Zoom has added some built-in shortcuts, for example Ctrl + Shift + U to jump to the chat list, but I am interested in hearing what is working for others.
Thank you for any ideas you are willing to share.

Dear all,
In case my message got lost on here, I do still appreciate any take on that discussion of how you're using Zoom.
Thanks again, and sorry for any inconvenience!

Hi there, I don't use Zoom on my computer, so I don't have much to add or help you with. I've only used Zoom on my iOS device to attend meetings. Most of my work-related meetings are on Microsoft Teams, which is a very accessible software. However, you do need to subscribe to their Microsoft 365 suite to use this feature. I hope you find a solution that works for you with Zoom.

Sincerely,

I use zoom with NVDA.
It's not the most intuitive thing to navigate but it does work.
On the first time of using it, find the option for your speakers and
check that the appropriate checkbox is checked.
Install the desktop application before you start rather than relying on
the web only mode of operation.

I don't use an add on for zoom. I get all of my notifications while outside the window somehow which can be good except if I'm giving a speech, but fore all the interface is more accessible without the add on in my opinion.

Hi Sarah,

I understand what you're saying here. So, what would your workaround be if you were the main host or facilitator?

In such situations, I often switch to Speech on Demand mode to avoid getting distracted by the chat/ alerts  while I'm facilitating.

And yes, I agree: most of the interfaces are quite accessible.

I just tune it out. I hear the speech but I  just pretend it is not there. I also have co hosts help me and be my hands while I'm doing what I need to do as well. I've also used speech on demand as well, all of these methods work.

Since NVDA volume can be set separately from other audio in NVDA speech
settings, at times, if I want to hear notices from Zoom but have them be
soft so they don't interfere with what people are saying, I lower the
NVDA volume. When you want to return the volume to its previous level,
you don't have to go into settings. Just issue the command NVDA,
control r and all settings will be what they were before you changed any
during this session.

I, like Sarah, do not use an add-on when using Zoom.  The interface is, by and large, pretty good.  I have had problems when copying a chat message but have resolved that by using the Speech history review and copying add-on.  Note that you can turn off screen reader feedback for chat, people coming and going etc in Zoom settings under Accessibility.  When doing a presentation with a large number of participants, I turn off the announcement of people entering and leaving.  I did ge4t caught once - each time I tried to read my notes the speech was interrupted by someone joining or leaving.
