Hi to the list,

I just subscribed to this list. So, first of all my introduction: I'm a church musician and audio-engineer from Hannover, Germany and work with Mac OS as well as with Windows. I'm very curious about the topics in this list and interested in participating. I just set up a new PC with Windows 11 pro latest Version and NVDA, also latest version. With this machine, every time, starting the computer, the windows-settings and there, the accessibility-tab opens automatically. That's strange, because usually, after the system-start, the desktop should get focuss, I haven't seen yet, windows-settings opening after system-start without user-interaction. I suppose, it could have something to do with NVDA, because after downgrading to latest NVDA 2025, the behaviour after the system-start is as usual, with the desktop getting focus. Any help with this would be very appreciated.

Thanks in advance and best.

Michael, are you also starting narrator automatically?

Ask since, by default, it will launch the narrator home interface whenever it starts, which might come across as accessibility-specific settings?

And, yes, some of us - me, specifically - allow narrator to auto-start, just in case, but under narrator's own settings, which you can also activate using ctrl+windows+N if narrator is running, and then tab over to home settings category, and make sure it's expanded, and then tab over to "show narrator home when narrator starts" checkbox, and I turn that one off, so narrator will just run in the background after I toggle it on/off using ctrl+windows+enter.

But, this might not be the exact cause - others might have other ideas.

Stay well

Hi Jacob and list,

thanks for your idea. But no, Narrator doesn’t start automatically at the login-screen. There’s no accessibility-setting on start up, that I activated conciously, except the NVDA-setting that should start NVDA at the login-screen. But unfortunately, that doesn’t work either. The only way, having speech right at startup, is turning on Narrator by pressing ctrl-windows-enter in order to type in my password with speech enabled.

Best.

What was saying is that, if you have started narrator, chances are that's what's then causing the accessibility settings to come up.

In terms of NVDA, best bet is to bring up NVDA general settings, and toggle automatic startup checkboxes on and off, restarting it inbetween, to make sure settings are saved exactly as you want them to.

Stay well

Only if you start it in a way that doesn't just start Narrator. At
least in n Windows 7, there was a command that would run Narrator and
open something else, I don't recall what it was.,l

How are you running Narrator? The shortcut that just runs Narrator and
nothing else is control Windows key enter.

Under windows 7, it was windows+U, followed by then hitting alt+N to
launch narrator.

Like said in first reply though, if you start narrator, it could very
well bring up it's home screen which contains various forms of settings
specific to narrator, until you have configured it not to bring up
narrator home on launch.
