Dear NumFOCUS GSoC Team,

My name is Ather Assadullah, and I am writing to express my strong interest in contributing to NumFOCUS projects as part of Google Summer of Code 2026.

I am a passionate future AI/ML engineer with a strong foundation in Python and its data science ecosystem. I have been building my skills through hands-on learning and am eager to apply them to real-world open-source projects under the NumFOCUS umbrella.

My Technical Background:

  • Core Skills: Python, pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, scikit-learn

  • Machine Learning: Completed Google's Machine Learning Crash Course (basics)

  • Additional Skills: Digital Marketing, Prompt Engineering, Graphic Design

I am particularly drawn to NumFOCUS because it supports exactly the tools I use and love—pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, and scikit-learn. Contributing to these projects would be a dream opportunity to learn from experienced mentors while giving back to the community that has enabled my learning journey.

My Commitment:

I understand that NumFOCUS values hands-on contribution over introductory emails . I am committed to:

  • Reviewing project ideas from sub-organizations that match my skills

  • Starting with beginner-friendly issues to learn each project's codebase

  • Reading and following each project's contributing guidelines and Code of Conduct

  • Engaging actively with the community on their communication channels

  • Making meaningful contributions before the application period

What I'm Looking For:

I would appreciate guidance on:

  • Which NumFOCUS sub-organizations are actively seeking GSoC 2026 contributors

  • The best way to start contributing to projects like pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, or scikit-learn

  • Any community events, meetings, or communication channels where I can connect with mentors
