Dear NumFOCUS GSoC Team,

My name is Adrija Sil, and I am writing to express my strong interest in contributing to NumFOCUS projects as part of Google Summer of Code 2026.

I am currently a second-year student pursuing Computer Science and Engineering at Government College of Engineering & Ceramic Technology, Kolkata. I have a solid foundation in programming and a keen interest in open-source development, particularly in the areas of data science, scientific computing, and machine learning.

My Technical Background:

 I am particularly drawn to NumFOCUS because of its commitment to supporting world-class, innovative open-source scientific software. The umbrella of projects under NumFOCUS—ranging from data analysis tools like Pandas to machine learning frameworks and scientific computing libraries—aligns perfectly with my interests and career aspirations.

I have been exploring the NumFOCUS sub-organizations and am particularly interested in projects related to:

  • PyData projects like Pandas or NumPy
  • Data visualization tools like Matplotlib or Plotly
  • Machine learning libraries like scikit-learn or PyMC

 I understand that NumFOCUS values hands-on contribution over introductory emails. I am committed to:

  • Reviewing the project ideas lists of sub-organizations that interest me
  • Starting with beginner-friendly issues to familiarize myself with the codebase
  • Reading and adhering to each project's Code of Conduct and contributing guidelines
  • Engaging actively with the community on the project's communication channels
  • Making meaningful contributions before the application period

 I would appreciate guidance on:

  • Which sub-organizations are looking for contributors for GSoC 2026
  • The best way to start contributing to projects that align with my skills
  • Any upcoming community events or meetings where I can engage with mentors and contributors

I have subscribed to the NumFOCUS GSoC mailing list (gs...@numfocus.org) and will be actively monitoring for updates. I am eager to contribute to the open-source scientific computing community and would be honored to participate in GSoC 2026 under the NumFOCUS umbrella.
