Hi,

since preparing rollout of Firefox 102ESR (coming from 91ESR) I found a little "problem":

FF102esr now seems to display so called sponsored shortcuts on a new page/new tab.
It's possible to change the settings by selecting settings gear and switch of the checkbox.
But are there any options in GPO to alter this setting globally ?

I already found the "Firefox Home" Settings and already disabled "sponsored Top-Sites" and "sponsored Pocket Stories",
but those doesn't seem to change the new page/new tab behaviour.

Any hints on this ?

Thanks,

Markus

Sponsored Topsites is definitely the thing that controls that.

You're still seeing tiles with the word "Sponsored" underneath after setting that?

@Markus: you need to tick what you want to enable

check my screenshot, with these settings no sponsored sites are enabled or your GPO is not applying

as far as I know this settings where already before 102esr (also mentioned in gpo informations as well)

Hi,

to be honest I have the exact same setting on this gpo, also I got this settings way before FF102esr.
Double checked with gpresult if the setting ist active, but still 102esr shows sponsored Shortcuts at a new page / new tab.
I have manually switch the setting off at the settings gear.

Any more hints ?

PS: I'm using the german localisation file for the gpo , maybe any error there ?

Regards,

Markus

Hi,

just as an update, i found the reason why gpo settings weren't working.

It seems that those settings responsable for sponsored shortcuts and pocket stories were in an inconsistent state.
Take a look at the attached screenshot (slightly redacted for necessary informations).
You can see that in the editor both sponsored settings weren't checked, but in the GPO Result window on the left,
those settings were blank ?! And therefore wasn't honored by a client.
I've redone the settings from unchecked to checked to unchecked again and after that also the GPO results
showed "Deactivated" at sponsored Shortcut and pocket stories and those settings were working on the client.

Is this a normal behaviour that some GPO settings are fluctuating and therefore are inconsistent ?
Do i have to doublecheck all my Firefox GPO settings for this ?

Regards,

Markus

That's interesting.

What I'll do is move these settings to a category as I've done for others.

Originally when I did the GPOs, I thought putting them all on one was a convenient way to do things, but I discover that it works better to have each one be its own setting.

Mike
