Hi All!

I'm getting the following version:
7.0.5-unknown-202306062349~7aa368c2c5~ubuntu22.10.1

Shouldn't be 7.0.6...?

It already drifted from 7.0.5 and is generating things more similar to
7.99, but with this version my workflows can't distinguish it.

Regards, Salvador

You are going to need to give us more information - where is this build from? Is it a stable build, or from the testing PPA?

7.0.6 has not been tagged yet, 7.0.5 is the latest, so nothing should be reporting as 7.0.6.

What do you mean drifted? You need to be more specific.

Testing PPA (ppa:kicad/kicad-7.0-nightly)

7.0.6 has not been tagged yet, 7.0.5 is the latest, so nothing should be reporting as 7.0.6.

Hmmm ... I see how you manage it ... you'll change the version and tag at the same time, I did it in the past and found it quite confusing because you need more information to distinguish the WIP from the release.

I mean "Generates different gerbers" and similar stuff, the exported data from the same input is different.

But I guess I can parse the long version string and if it looks like the PPA names force a small version change, like 7.0.5.1. Isn't bullet proof, but will work, as long as the PPA releases keeps the same format (Version-platform-date~hash~OS).

I just though the team used the other mechanism because Wayne says things like "Begin version 7.0.6 development.".

Testing builds have a version string that includes the most recent tag along with further version info.  So it is expected and correct that testing builds after 7.0.5 include the string 7.0.5 as *part* of the version info.

The testing build version string is platform/package-dependent.  The format used for Ubuntu builds is different from other platforms, for example, so be careful if you are depending on this.
