mcontrol hit bit on a non-match

If a hart implements the hit bit of the mcontrol register, then what should happen to that a bit when there is no match.  On a match, the spec says that a 1 should be written to the hit bit.  On a non match should a 0 be written to the hit bit or should the hit bit be left unmodified?

The hit bit is only modified when a trigger hits (it is written to 1) or when the CSR is explicitly written.
